I'm trying to create some beauty shots that don't have the clutter/distractions of the house behind it. I'm just learning how to cut/paste/overlay pics. Next step is to blur the base into the backdrop to more look like it's sitting there. Maybe drop the totem poles contrast some. I'll get there.

The biggest indication that your totem isn’t from the background scenes is the lighting. The reflections on your totem says the sun is off the left side but none of your backgrounds have the son there.

If you get a picture of the totem at a gray, evenly lit time of day then you can use photoshop to provide “sun reflections” that match your background.

Think about the color of the expected light, too. The reflection color is great for the sunset shots but off for the forest shot.

Shooter, you are a true artist. That totem is awesome. And, you have a great story to tell about the totem to boot. I don't think any Native American should be offended by a non-Native making it. You are paying tribute and honor to their culture rather than demeaning it.

Beautiful work! Really looks like the wood counterpart, great job at translating it to metal.

That totem is awesome. I doubt any native american would have any problem with it. I agree that you're honoring the culture more than anything (myself and every mexican i know love when people of different races are into their culture).

You could always hang a green sheet and do the green screen thing for photoshopping.

    Shootr,

Somewhere in your description of the totem you gave a sequence of the segments; what they represented. I searched through some of the 14 pages of this thread and didn't find them. Would you please repeat the bottom to top parts of the totem, please?

    Ooof, that sucks!

So the bottom one is a god/goddess/spirit that gifts the village a fishing boat.
Above it is the village fisherman, holding the bounty of salmon he harvested using the boat.
On top of that is mama bear and her cub - and on tippy top is the eagle - the animals are given a share of the fish as an offering to karma so good fortune will continue to fall upon the village.

    Or something like that lol.

    Oh there's an eagle also.

Give a man a plane ticket and he will fly for a day.

PUSH a man out of a plane and he will fly .. for the rest of his life.

OK! Thanks a million. I have shown your totem to several folks and they were amazed and also curious what the totem story was.

Re: Shootr's New Adventure - Totem Pole Build

I'm pretty sure I'm doing a moai next. But much later. For now, I only have 1 giant project in me per year! Time for smaller Xmas presents and other yard stuff to sell.

I want to get a bit of an inventory, then take a stab at a local weekend art fair.

Shooter, I just saw this in my Pinterest feeds and thought you might be interested if not to make then to enjoy the creativity of the fire pit and theme behind it. It reminds me of the characters in a video game the kids use to play called “Crash Bandicoot”
