Diesel tank, took about five hours with a trip Coast Welding Supply, but it came out ok. It is going to get Bondo and paint tomorrow.

If you look inside there is a visable weld puddle, I penetrated heavy.

Years ago it was the exact opposite you had to grind the weld. And if you came across porosity or something like that you found out what went wrong, and fixed it. The reason they stopped grinding welds is because it exposes the horror.

To give you an idea while grinding I found a spot of Tungsten and ground it out, if it was any deeper I would have ground below the surface and went over the spot again. Guys do not penetrate anymore so if you grind the weld it fails, if you penetrate totally grinding is the right thing to do. It relieves the stress caused by the weld on the surface. But I hear you if that is the rule then that is the rule. But so many of the show trucks are done that way.

My pet peeve are the idiots that put off-road LED lights on the front of their vehicle and blind everyone.

I don't see any mention of welding, other than all joints must be arc welded, brazed, etc.............see Sec C

I found no requirement that the weld not be dressed, or smoothed, in any manner.

IMHO, the better way would be to leave an exposed weld above the material surface. The bead provides addition reinforcement if not ground. But, that's just my opinion. I'm not a fan of welding thin material while solely relying on a gap to provide penetration.........I like that bit of metal above the seam.

a trailer...as most of those show trucks are well over 100k easily, and all the chrome on them makes it unwise to drive on dirty roads, I have several friends with show cars and they get transported in enclosed trailers, if the show trucks are too big for a covered trailer they are tarped to keep road grime off of them, they can lose points at judging for having road crap all over their truck or cars..I dont have a clue about DOT tank standards, but a bit about show trucks and cars....

I think that’s for a big truck. Probably a 3 or 4 axle truck possibly more. I don’t think those fit into enclosed trailers

The raised weld bead is on the inside. Not that you need it but it is there. Aluminum is a funny metal right after welding the weld is soft but after a couple of months, it gets age hardened. That is why I never recommend anything but 40-43 filler. Other more brittle rods, later on, will continue to get harder and harder.

The guys often make a show because they have a job on the way, many of the trucks are work trucks. To get a low flatbed to put the tractor on and another tractor to pull it is pretty costly. They just do what they love doing when they get to the show, and that is, polish up their trucks.

There are a couple trucks up in Boston I see like that.

They ARE work trucks but then again they are not very practical.
Most of them have very long (ridiculous) wheelbases
And very low to the ground...

I suppose if you’re going to just hit the freeway and do a drop and hook it would be OK. But to actually back in a 53 foot trailer anywhere tight is a royal pain in the nuts.
Especially when you’re literally sitting on the floor and the gear shifter is at the ceiling..... LOL !

My son has the light bar mounted on his Blacked out Chevy suburban. He only turns them on when someone is in the left lane and will not yield to the right. Haha. It is kind of funny to see. Years ago when he was younger he bought an AR15 and put one of those blinding bright lights on it. I was asleep I had to be up early. He comes into my room yelling "FREEZE ON THE GROUND", puts his foot on me to hold me down, and blinds me with the light. And then just leaves my room. I had a burned-in image of the light in my retinas. After a while, I started to think it was some kind of insane dream I had and fell asleep. So the next day I wake up and look at my white sheet and his boot print is on it. I said to myself "that little bastard" with that he comes in again and pulls the same stunt. That time I grabbed his gun and took it away. I love him so much though I cannot stay mad at him, he makes me laugh.

I had one guy that complained constantly about his 18 speed jumping out of gear in the front holes... I took away his 18" shifter extension and threw it in the scrap bin, his boss approved of that move, the extra weight would pop it out on a rough road.
