I think we've all done something similar, even an angle grinder can mess up a window

    Re: Welding truck build

I need ideas for a place to mount my vise, I was thinking on the back, semi under the crane base. But it seems kind of high,

    On the bumper seems low.......

Obviously the vise would be slid back a little bit, rested flat on the truck

That really turned out well. You had a great vision about how to transform it. Congrats!

I totally agree. Having the vision is what I struggle with.

As I mentioned a few months back I still can’t drive past an ambulance without wanting to take a grinder and cutoff wheel to it after seeing Phil’s transformation.

That is a slick looking truck, turned out great. Have used 2" receiver hitch tubes and this is how my vice is mounted along with a roll out wheel and a chain vise. have 2" receiver tubes in different spots. Looks like you will need two out riggers on the back for the crane. Maybe build a new bumper with outriggers and storage and a place to mount the vice.

If you could use a receiver you could have a post to mount the vice off the bumper and it could be removeable if required.

    Re: Welding truck build

The vise is 150lbs, not something that can be removed and moved around easily

But I do like the bumper idea

I like the custom License plate!

Mine is mounted on the corner of the bumper. On my truck it is waist high, and it’s nice to be able to access 270 degrees around the vice on the corner to manipulate long stock, if necessary.

Thanks, it was a long process, I never really had a clear vision of what I wanted from the beginning, but it slowly evolved once I got started

Lol that's funny, everytime I see an ambulance I wonder if I could do it again.

Yeah the window was a good addition, helps with the airflow, and it allows me to use my rear view mirror, which is very nice

So I'm thinking I will do a receiver for the vise, I can put it right here, where the red "x" is that way the 2" tubing can go into the box, and I can extend the vise out from the truck a little in order to work.

And you could use a separate 24-36inch hitch extension for even more versatility at least you'll have to crane right there to move it around

It really makes you look like your rolling in the dough when you have a crane mounted on your truck just to lift the vice on and off.
