Re: Show us what you welded today
Interesting. I don't know much about the aging process, but I certainly won't be putting any beef in it! I just figured it might pick up some of the whisky flavor. I do buy my yeast. I may be taking a trip to Winooski...
Thanks for the tips

Saw a documentary on Bacardi rum. They buy the used barrels from Jack Daniel's to age their rum in. Have read Appleton Estates uses the Jack Daniel's barrel's as well. Jack Daniel's only uses the barrels once.

I do have an alt for this design. But I don't have it set up yet. I'll post pics once I do.

Great to know. I have to get that 92-8 next time I have to refill. Although it still works a bit with c25.

YEs, very nice on the spray transfer... almost looks like a MAG weld heh heh
So I gotta ask Why the outer brace intersection point on the smaller tubing is not closer to the main vertical tube... or for that matter on it? or just easier fitment...?? or is there a structural reason???

I normally run 90-10 because that's what my LWS keeps in stock, works well for me. Was getting a little more spatter today than normal but didn't have time to try to figure it out. I'll play with settings a little tomorrow.

If I understand correctly what you're asking. I decided to bring the outer braces in some so they would help prevent the legs from deflecting in and out as well.

Re: Show us what you welded today
Hey!!! I did some PVC solvent welding today... does that count?
Material SDR35 4" PVC welded with clear low voc prepped by adding 20 percent MEK and 10 percent acetone to 'freshen' up the can
Also prepped the pipe by chamfering the ends as per spec and applied purple primer to esure a nice clean and oil free bond

I think it's the smell of MEK that gives me an instant headache.

Hmmmm, I always thought that was the best part of being down in the trench with an open can and a bunch of joints...
Er.... pipe joints... that is.

I really despise glued PVC pipe above ground. I see tons of 6" and 8" in orchards and see plenty of blow outs, replacing the hasty built stuff with steel has made me a few bucks here and there.

oh well... I get it done sooner or later.... got more than half of the galv I need for the planned changes anyways
gonna make it more modular and more serviceable -- so more valves, more unions, more ports
Just start over from scratch using 100% slip x slip unions/connectors and let the next guy worry about it.

I know, right? One orchard over here had a manifold with 8-10 tees glued together with short pieces between them, it had blown out 4 or 5 times and the managent called me. Went in and built a welded steel manifold with flanged connections to the outlet valves and steel down to the mainline. Six years later it's still going good. After the outlet valves... maybe not so well.
