I tried more heat coloring, not sure if I like it but the completed totem will be left to rust so probably doesn't matter.

Also think the tail is too big, may cut that narrower.

Short day, but wonderful - mid 70's and drizzling - what a nice mid-summer treat!

Made the hands out of 1/2" round bar. Cut to length, ground in the fingertips, welded together, and curled them to shape.

Cut and shaped the forearms then welded in the hands.

    Very cool.

Maybe a hole or two in the canoe so it doesn't hold water and can be hosed out when it fills with grime?

We're on the same page...already drilled a couple holes for drainage in the boat. Pretty much all over the exterior features I'm drilling holes or cutting drainage slots so there is nowhere for water to stagnate if it finds it way in.

Just the face left to go. The nose will be different from the other, probably a thick vertical triangle of steel with small trimmed semi-hemispheres for nostrils. Eyes I haven't decided on yet.

That deserves some kind of special lighting for night time viewing. I was thinking something like those color changing laser lights they sell at Xmas, only with different colors. Maybe something more reserved.... stoic..

That totem pole is looking great..... but I'm more impressed by that beautiful lawn! I think that's the first time I've ever seen a yard that's more grass than weeds.

No... when you go to checkout they add it in and then subtract it at the end. As long as the total order is over $50 and under something like 60 lbs you should be good.

I must have bought too much stuff from them. My last order they dropped the shipping they would pay from "up to $50 of shipping" to "up to $30 of shipping". The last order cost me a whopping $0.18 to ship. If you order multiple things take a close look at their invoice. I don't know what kind of accounting they use but it is peculiar. They started with the original price, then applied a discount to get the sale price, then added a sub total that didn't add up(it was off by $0.48). Then they charged the shipping, Then they applied a discount again that didn't include the taxes but did include the $30 for shipping, then they charged the taxes again and came out with the correct amount. I don't know how it works but it does.

Purolator is another story here. They have been pretty good in the summer but in the winter they take my stuff for a ride in their delivery trucks often for an extra day. Exceptions for not delivering are breakdowns, stuck in the snow, extreme weather events(that didn't occur at my place) and I'm expecting to see alien invasions by little green men. Mostly I think it's "I'm not driving way the heck out there today." Most stuff gets here mostly okay although I did have to refuse a 5 hp electric motor because the connection box was broken completely off the housing. Fun,fun.

How far are you from a store??

Google shows 19-22 minutes for me…

But I know darn well at 9AM on a (3 day long weekend) Sunday I can be there in under 10. Almost all highway driving for me.

The easiest one for me to get to is a new one(I guess) that I see opened(maybe) near where one of my daughters lives but it is 1.25 hours one way to get there. I wasn't aware it was even there until I did this search. Maybe it's not there yet either. Princess Auto doesn't list the location as one of their stores and the street level pics on Google shows an empty field with a big high tension power line running though it. There is a shovel in the field next to it though so maybe it will be open soon?? The next 3 closest ones are listed below. 2 of them would put me though Montreal to get there(I hate city driving) and the other one is in Ottawa. It's in Ottawa, need I say more.

Added a "brow" (more like a viking-esque helmet nose guard type thingy) and a chain around his neck. I'll make or find something appropriate to hang from it like a necklace. Made some claws for the bear so it would hopefully look more like a bear - I don't know...

Need a break, little things are bugging me more than they should. I'll daydream about the hawk that'll go on top instead.

It's almost 2 hrs for me, and yes, Purolator is a joy. They leave my stuff in a town 12 miles away because the town 3 miles away is a mile off the highway. He phoned me to come get the sandblasting sand off his truck because he didn't want to carry the 25 kg bags.
