sounds good when you are gettin on it.

the hollow cat acts as a resonator and helps with the "look at me I'm cool" sound moto is looking for....

I've wanted a 6 postion chip .... for about 25 years now,,,, but keep procrastinating.... One of these days...

Bellowed up pipes are NICE but spendy and a PITA to install... maybe someday when I pull the engine to replace the oil pan...

my dipstick adapter was 'classically' leaking so I cleaned it good and goobered the surrounding area with 2-part steel epoxy and knock on wood It's leak free for a few years now... but thats a piss/poor design if I ever saw it.

over the years, a couple glow plug relays, a couple sensors on the engine.... yada yada... little stuff...
But all said, it's a good truck.

Did the clutch after about 200k got rid of that dual mass flywheel... oh, a couple water pumps too... I recently added a coolant spin on filter..... after my last pump and coolant flush... the jury is still out if that helps any... fixin to cut open the filter someday...

    Oil?
    Rotella T 15w-40 OF COURSE.

Pyrometer and boost gauge are a good Idear also.... which I installed....

I need new shocks again soon..... last time I got Bilsteins and was NOT impressed... Any SUGGESTIONS??

As far as an Exhaust brake?
    absolutely not. / bad idea.

but like most things, when you tell moto something, he don't listen.

so stay tuned.... this is gonna be a goodun.

JohnT, I recently upgraded my dodge Cummings with upside down FOX shocks. I like them. Seems like my truck runs better. No muffler needed for emissions. Auto meter pyro and turbo gauge. I always let the exuast cool down before shutoff and never had a problem with starting. A fuel pressure gauge and faast fuel pump are on my wish list tho

Edit: delo or rotella oil in engine. Tranny and diffs have redline.

The IH bellowed up pipes are spendy yes but not nearly as spendy as they were when I first bought mine I hear the Dorman brand has ironed out the issues with theirs and they cost way less. Also seen a couple skilled tiggers make their own. I ran Rotella 15/40 forever but when they changed from CJ to CK spec they took most of the phosphorus out so they could run it in DPF equipped vehicles and Ford took it off their approved list. Just running the last of my Rotella CJ which I had stockpiled and going to try Traveller's from TS next, still a CJ spec oil.

I wasn’t aware they changed it...
I just got in the habit of buying it for years.... for just about everything

Does Valvoline VR1 make an equivalent?

I use VR1 in my old shovelhead
I just happen to find a great deal on Amazon one day for a case.

Speaking of oil changes and filters

I buy all my filters from Fleet filter.

They have some pretty good prices and good quality Wix And Motorcraft filters

Watch out on the FASS stuff, I have troubleshot about a dozen in the last few years that people were having 'issues' with... some thought it was computer,sensor,etc... but in the end I tracked all the problems down to 'lack of quality manufacturing' for lack of a better phrase in the FASS system blocks. So if you do put one of their systems on and within a month or two you start having fuel prime issues or just stalling after a fill up get ready to rip that sucker out of there...

The E fuel I used Was from mark fugazotta??

Fuga is the dude on a couple truck forums.

I’ve had mine for a few years now trouble free it uses a super duty pump and the stock return pressure regulator valve

Yes Valvoline is on the Ford approved list. Lots of guys went to Motorcraft which is pretty cheap at Wally World and meets all the specs. Funny thing is up till 2011 Ford never made their own diesel engines so not sure if it really means anything when they say "not approved" or "approved" for Ford engines. The testing that they did when they took Rotella 15/40 off their list was done on their 6.7 and they said they noticed "accelerated wear patterns". The Rotella synthetic is still on their list.

I'd want a egt gauge before a boost gauge imo.

The original filter for the 7.3 Superduty trucks is a Racor. It doesn't come with a cap like WIX and some people have reported leaks with the after market filters that come with a cap. One thing to note is these trucks like OEM stuff, especially sensors. Stay away from non OEM sensors and you will have less headaches.

Stay away from that Lucas ****. Anything that thickens oil messes with the oil film in the bearings. Oil has to FLOW at all pump speeds......idle, or full tilt. And it has to flow at all temperatures...…..don't ever put thickener in a motor unless the motor is on its last legs. Never mess with the specified viscosity for a piece of equipment.

So, here's a scenario...………..Truck burns oil thru the rings...….dood puts some of that motor honey crap in there......and subsequently ruins the crankshaft...….but it ain't blowin' smoke anymore

    That crap is snake oil.

ABSOLUTELY...……...nothing but Motorcraft sensors in a Ford vehicle...….the other stuff sucks. Worst example is the IAC solenoids for gas engines...….pure junk if aftermarket.

Not to mention the 7.3 is a HEUI engine as well, mess with the oil and you mess with your injectors.

Some of the best engineers in the world do engine design and testing. When they reccomend doing something, its for a reason. people go buy rigs then mess with them- cold air this/ tune that, put some snake oil in it Then they come back on the web and complain how their vehicle blew up. Cracks me up.

It'll be fine... just don't start putting a bunch more additives in there. as for fuel additives IF you go to use any only use the prescribed amount don't figure if a little is good then a bunch is better... the only stuff I ever ran was PowerService and that was just for cold winters and if I was heading to the pass.... a buddy of mine filled up and headed over snoqualmie without any additives for anti gelling and right at the top his 2003 7.3 lost power and died.... after a lot of $$$$$$$$$(new injectors, new HPOP,etc...) he ended up getting rid of the truck a while later as it just kept having problem stemming from the fuel gelling.

Re: Going to check out this powerstroke today. What do you think?

I worked for a guy that swore by putting unleaded gas in the diesel when it got real cold.

It worked real good...…….no gelling down to 0. But if you didn't use all the doctored diesel before it warmed up...……..that motor would clatter like it was gonna blow up. Mega detonation I suppose it was a real tribute to the old Big Cam 350's...……..almost indestructible.

Kerosene is the safer solution. Power Service is just an expensive workaround

Re: Going to check out this powerstroke today. What do you think?

I know plenty of oldtimers that would cut diesel with gas for winter... and other reasons.... but in the newer diesels I wouldn't want to put in more than probably 1 percent...maybe 5 if I had to... and I really can't see a reason that I'd have to do it... well.... except with the 'new' crap diesel they sell(bio-diesel) that can gel while looking at an ice cube you really have to be careful if you fill the tank somewhere that puts in 10-15-25 percent bio if you're gonna be rolling anywhere below freezing.

And, I suppose you gotta draw a hard red line between "real" diesels, that ignite from compression alone...…...and the toy pickup truck diesels that rely on ignitors (for want of a better word). Put that high octane crap in a pickup, and ya have some real expensive issues coming real soon.

IIRC...….he specified about 10% gas to diesel on that truck. Blew me away. Thought it would blow up first time I hit the starter.
