Scrap metal art or projects

I've had a matching pair of old cobblers shoe repair anvils around for awhile trying to figure out what to do with them.

Today it occurred to me they may have value as bookends ...



So I cleaned them up, wiped them with BLO, kissed them with a torch and put them in the "oven".







Now the search is on for a complete set of " The Old Lady Who Lived In A Shoe and Contraceptive Myths Debunked " to use for display and marketing.

I get my tanks in bulk lots and only pay scrap value for them and everything else.

I used pieces of scrap plate to make a vertical receiver for this little Record vise today. It has brass jaw inserts and needed to be elevated for light duty work.







Here it is mocked up. I will punch holes and weld another day.

This was my first welding project that I built during the summer of 2020 and was I was way (WAAAAAAAAY!) out of my league. Took me about 3 months to complete in my free time and required several cases of Bud Light as I sat staring at it trying to figure it each step. I was learning the basics of welding and design and engineering all at the same time. Skis were old family skis from the early 1980s and 1990's and found in an outdoor closet that hadn't been opened in years! Has become a treasured family chair at a cabin in Winter Park, CO.

Slight revision. I thought about mounting that little vise on a small elevated table.

Probably be handy for keeping small crap off the welding table

I have a stack of round 1/2" plate which I salvaged from the bases of Starbuck freestanding coffee tables so this should still qualify as "scrap" for Pat's thread.

Made another one. I like these things all scrap and just minutes to make. And as a guy on this board once said "You are not making a bridge over a day care" so the stress level is zero.

The welds are at the back of the ball for most of them. I tried to blend it and hide it. Looks like it worked.

That is about 300 cylinders. I have already picked up about the same number earlier in the year. They still have another 300 or more at the house.
These came from the late Ed Kidera. He was a steam punk artist and made really nice bells. Unfortunately, he passed away about a month ago from cancer. He had reached out me earlier in the year and invited me to his place to talk shop and offer some cylinders.
I am buying the cylinders and maybe some scrap to help the family clean up the area. It helps me and they are happy the tanks are going to make other happy.
