Trailer fail pics

Thought maybe a trailer fail thread might be good. Saw both of these today within a few miles of each other just west of Memphis on I-40. The first has 3500 lb axles which might explain the sagging.



The next is 2 3500 lb axles with 4" drop turned upside down and under the springs to get the trailer over the tires. LOL

Yeah, about 8K for the Bobcat alone plus the grapple bucket. Then there's the 2K for the trailer. Assuming it is a 7K trailer not a 10K one he's over weight. Even at 10K he's borderline.

He's also got it loaded way too far forward from the looks of the front tires. He needs the weight back about a foot or so farther to the rear at least to load the trailer equally. Grapple ought to be in the empty flat bed.



Not sure how you put those axles at 3.5K vs 5K or 6K. Lug count? I've seen 7K , 10K, 12K and 14K trailers that all look almost exactly like that. The 12's and 14's around here are almost nonexistant since they started cracking down on drivers of stuff like that without a class A license around here. Everyone I knew who used to have them dumped them and went to 10K trailers so their guys didn't need to get the full class A license ( especially since the DOT won't let you take the class A test with a rig like what is shown even though you need the license for one..) If they needed a heavy trailer they usually just went up to bigger tagalongs in the 20K range and were done with it.

Judging by the wind sheild wipers in the second photo, and the mirror off to the far right, it must be a bus, since there is no hood out front. If it were a van, then the mirrors would be mounted out on the sides of the doors, not forward of the wind sheild.

It's a wonder the meathead didn't anchor it with a blue 3/4 ratchet strap from Homeless Despot.

when I was doing research for my axle flip. (I just flipped the springs from the bottom to the top) I found out that it was actually pretty common practice for guys with travel trailers with drop axles to flip the axle over to get a 4" lift axle instead of a 4" drop axle. I didn't opt for that because of the added leverage on the springs and the axle itself is not meant to be upside down. but it's apparently not that uncommon to have drop axles set like that.

Well there's no ground clearance on those damn things... so if they take it off pavement they need to lift em!

Just coincidentally, these trailers(lol) were at the truckstop tonight when I stopped. Been a good day for dumb drivers. I think the signs kinda put it all in perspective.

Those pics show what's wrong with companies that give someone just enough training to get their license and turn them loose. I've heard of a lot of bad wrecks from the same guys that would do that. Nice truck also. My company has some internationals, freightliners and Volvos. The Volvos are by far the most comfortable to drive, and ride in.

Welderj I agree.
CEP is special in his own sort of way too. His parents probably appreciate him more than most of us just like the one that created that piece of work in your photo appreciates his creation more than the rest of us.

That trailer reminds me of a guy I worked for.

If I simplify his normal instructions it goes like this...
"Cut a crappy hunk of junk off that POS truck and weld it on this rusted crappy POS and make it look excellent."

Anyone else work for that guy?

Worked for some of them as well. There is so much fail on that last picture I wouldn't know where to start. Nice to see the strap " gussets" for extra insurance though.
