The employment figures and pay are probably fairly close. Here, the rate for a burger grunt is in the $10 range and we have nowhere near as high an employment. Downside...just try to find lodging anywhere near...and in this neck of the woods near is 50 miles...at any price. Crime is up in the oil field area as well as the prices for basic commodities and lodging. I recommended you keep yourself satisfied with the color of the grass down your way.

the wages you mentioned have also been reported several times in verious web articles due to the oil rigging going on. The living conditioned as mentioned above are also correct, one article mentioned that if you want to go there to seek employment you had better take along something to call home, and as mentioned crime, even STD's are way up due to all the guys showing up and spreading it around as well as the strippers showing up to take part of the windfall of wages. another article also mentioned that at one point some places were importing workers for the burger joints, just because there isnt enough people to take all the jobs. so if you want to go take a trailer to sleep in and buy a box of condoms that will fit over your wacker and your head, just to be on the safe side.
I live up here but do not work for the oil field. There are jobs to be had up here but it's housing and the price of living that is the downside. The wages are 20 to 30 to work on the rigs but they own you. You make most your money on OT in crappy conditions. As far as welding I know a guy in Minot that makes 85 an hour doing non pressure and all the hours he wants with his own rig. If you don't bring your camper trailer you can stay in man camps which I have heard are all right, food served 24 hours and sack lunches when you leave, no booze etc. The other option is try to find housing, in Dickinson they have apartments that havent been updated since they were built in the 70's that are 1300 for 1 bedroom and 2500 for 3 bedroom. Food is more expensive along with everything else. Water and sewer systems in city's are at max, roads are very dangerous, schools are bursting, and it's just not a very nice place to be. I have to work around a small portion and it's a pain in the ***. But the jobs are there and money is there to be made if you can put up with everything else. A guy I work with his brother is a mud tech and worked all but 5 days last year, yes that's right, pulled home around 180,000! A lot of people go home busted though too. All depends what drives you.
