Sorry I did not get a photo of it, but I was very pissed at the time. While driving home late this last Friday night from an out of state football game, I ran over and hit something on the highway. I drove back to see what it was that I had ran over, and discovered it looked like someone had tried to repair a broken front bumper on a large truck. The bumper had been broken and the person that had tried to repair it with pigeon dropping welds had welded the break somewhat and then pigeon pooped welded 2 pieces of angle iron on the back side of the broken piece of bumper. The section that I hit was about 2' in length, about 10-12" wide, the two pieces of angle iron were about 1 1/2' each in length. They had about 8" of angle iron pigeon pooped welded to the back side of the piece of bumper that I hit and about 8" of each piece of angle iron that had been pigeon pooped to the bumper that was still attached to the truck. I disposed the piece that I ran over so that no one else would run over it.

I am a hobby welder myself but I would have never welded anything together that poorly that would have been going up and down the highway. Please guys if you don't know how to weld do your practice welding on something other than that which could kill or injure others! I am sure I have some tire damage, but hopefully I did not damage anything else on my pickup.

13 years ago Me & the Missus went from VT to Boston to a car dealer. They were advertising prices too good to be true.
We were driving 70 MPH in several lanes of bumper to bumper traffic. We came to a high point on a hill. I could see down a long hill. Far ahead, I could see dozens of brake lights. All seemed at the same place. Soon it was our turn, we hit the object in the road like hundreds of cars before & hundreds after. I believe it was a bumper from a 1960s Volkswagen Beetle.

I imagine millions of dollars damage to 1000s of cars before it could be removed.

I wasn't for sure just what I had hit when I ran over it, I am glad I went back and found out what it was and got it off of the hiway. From looking at the scuff marks on the hiway I would say I was not the only one that had ran over it. I carried it off of the hiway and set it along fence line.

The company I worked for before I retired had a truck driver that lost driveline on the truck he was driving. Person behind him driving a Jetta hit it. His car was totaled out. Luckily the driver was not hurt, our company insurance payed out quite a bit.

I'm not saying you can't scavenge some truck frames to make a foot bridge support, but there's a reason why they say Found On Road Dead.....

The guy did this in the flat position knowing he was supposed to weld in the horizontal 2g position guess he was supplied with a short backer and he didn’t wanna put it on even

"Problems are like root welds. Bury them deep enough and it doesn't matter when the root looks like.

During my welding training in the US Navy,, for the first few plates, they made us GRIND OFF THE 1/4" THICK BACKING STRIP before x-ray.

I think that was to encourage us to learn how to make an adequate root pass, that could pass x-ray.

If there was a root problem, the backing strip had to be removed, and the weld ground out, and fixed.
I NEVER had another backing strip have to come off,,, some of those guys were gluttons for punishment, because of poor root welds.

I gotta say, being the QC guy sounds kinda fun. Getting PAID to judge other peoples welds. I've been doing that for free for YEARS!

They actually have about the hardest job. We all judge welds. Every time a guy takes a test most of us look at it
