It is not welding. It is like sponge. You can find any kind of weld defects including gas pore, under cut, less penetration, cracks...))
Only a micro crack inside the weld bead can ruin HUGE projects! Do you know?

Don't even need to gouge or grind that one out, just peel it off like slag.

I bet a cold chisel or air hammer could take that weld out in one solid caterpillar (pun intended). I would mail it to CAT corporate and tell them to frame it as a monument to their proud heritage of craftsmanship (sarcasm intended).

This guy told me he paid some shop a hundred bucks to reweld the expanded metallic on his drop-down ramp because it had come loose last year....... It didn't last very long.

I read a little of the original post, at least the person owns the welds
as being terrible . Gotta give him some credit for that...............

This is classic 'Hinge [joint] Failure' - the weld peeled,
because it was unrestrained = welded on the wrong
    side . . .

    Pretty . . . and not uncommon on OEM equipment . . .

What I do is start the puddle on the tube then quickly drag the puddle to the stretched steel then quickly pull out of the puddle.

I don't think the guy who welded it knows what a puddle is.

I vote for an idiot with a MIG/FC welder who watches too many interweb videos of other ****ty welders making a bunch of tack welds and calling it a good weld instead of laying a nice long bead (thin sheet metal work not withstanding but in that case I could argue to get a pulsed MIG welder or use TIG)

Well the first pick of the tow hook had me worried but then the second pic made it all better!
