What if you had the torch tip against your skin and accidentally hit the trigger, initiating the pilot arc...what would that do to you ?

I would recommend leaving the safety device in place so we don't find out.

I tried to cut a hot dog with a Powermax 45. The arc didn't go through it but it did create a gully in it by shrinking it. I think i would definitely hurt a lot.

Obviously there are risks just like taking any guard off. Just curious if anyone has done it and what their thoughts were

I thought the same thing when I first got my plasma. But I soon got used to it and I'm glad it still has the safety on it. There's just to many times when it would be to easy for it to slip and come on when you don't want it to.

When we first introduced that trigger guard about 18 years ago....I did not like it. It took me a few weeks.....but I don't even notice it...even with heavy gloves. I am always laying my mig gun down....the trigger hits something and it starts feeding out wire. I guess I'm glad the plasma does not fire!

    Re: pm65 hand torch trigger

I'm the same. I sometimes wish for a trigger lock on my migs.

I have noticed that the triggers on the new torches are having more problems with stuff getting in them and locking them down compared to the old T80 torch trigger. The trigger on my old torch has been melted and abused for years and was relatively trouble free despite this. The new torch on the other hand has given me some trouble from time to time.
