My buddy is looking at a lightly used Hobart champion generator/welder. It will be used for fixing things around the place and some mobile repair. He has a mill and will be doing small logging operations so this thing could really come in handy. The repair shop won't exactly be right down the road so reliability is a must. Not to mention that I will most likely use it once or twice so want to make sure that it's the right one. ;) ha ha...
Any info is appreciated, thanks.

That price could be ok depending on how many hours are on the machine and its general condition. I believe that that's close to top dollar unless it's a really low time machine. If it has more than 1500 hrs it should be priced closer to $1000 in my opinion. More than 2000 hrs it should be dirt cheap.

It's an excellent machine for general use. I used one in a heat exchanger shop on a rather large steam condenser using 3/16 7018. It's not meant for really heavy use though. Only has about a 60% duty cycle at around 200 amps. They sell new for about $2300 if that helps.
