Hi Guy's I have a Century 130 Mig that is giving me issues. The welder acts like the Ground is bad but it does not appear to be the case. Can anyone help me out and tell me how to troubleshoot it.
Thanks

S',
I think you need to be more descriptive.
What makes you think it's a bad ground?
How do you have the welder set up?
-wire type
-where it's plugged in
-what polarity the ground and whip are attached to
And anything else you can think of. Remember, we can't see what you can.

Hey also, offering up nudey pics of your sis or free beer will get you faster responses :D

Ok well the ground thoughts are Basicley just a thought that I had but affter looking closer it appears to be ok. What happens is when I pull the trigger it strikes an arc and just stops? Almost like the ground isn't good. That was why I thought maybe it was the cause. As far the wire and contact tip they are .030
Thanks

it strikes an arc then the wire quits feeding?
or
it strikes an arc and the wire keeps feeding but no output voltage?

Where's the setings on the knobs at?
Have you changed the contact tip?
How old's the liner in the whip?
Does this happen at all voltage and wire speed settings?
Where's the aforementioned beer?

The settings can be anywhere because this makes no difference at all the burn back happens each and every time. I bought the liner last year when I thought that it may have been the issue. Tips have been changed too. I'm a mechanic and have been around this sort of stuff for a long time just never had any issues with them... Welders that is...As far as the bear goes if you square me away I'll take care of you! My boy's are dying to learn how to weld and I think it's time that I teach them so I don't have to fix there stuff forever if you know what I mean....

bad ground will cause wire not to burn

test wire feed

(1) turn amps all the way down

(2) turn wire feed all the way up

(3) cut wire off about 1/2" from tip

(4) using a piece of wood put end of wire about 1/2" away

(5) pull trigger, it should push your torch back or the wire will push off the wood. If this does not happen, is the feed motor is running? If not replace motor.

If the motor is running then these are the things to check.

(1) wire drag to tight

(2) wire roller is the wrong one for the wire size

(3) motor shaft spinning in the wire roller

(4) wire tensioner arm is bad

make repairs and adjustments and redo test

If all else fails call me.

Feed motor is running for sure. How do you tell what size the roller wheel is? What is the best way to set the tension on the break? I looked around on the Net for a manual with no success any idea where to get one? I suppose if I e-mailed Lincoln and asked maybe I might be able to acquire one....

S',
From what you're saying, sounds like the voltage output is stuck on high.

From what I know, this is the output selector, the shunt, or the pc board. i'm not familiar with your 130, and am guessing there really isn't a pc board but I could be wrong.

Have you taken it apart, even though you don't have a manual?
If so, does anything look or smell burned?

Thanks Guy's! I am going to look this manual over and maybe I will be able to find out whats happening? I'll take it apart and see what makes it tick. Wish me luck!
Hey Mechanic I looked at that manual and unfortunately that is for a Lincoln Mig My welder is a 110V Century 130 Md# 117-052 003
If you see anything out there in Cyberspace or anywhere for that matter let me know!
Thanks again!
