If anybody has one they would like to give away or sell. I have a 4 1/2" Metabo, and I want to put a 6" guard on it to use slicer disks.

Looks like a number of 6" cutoff wheels are rated just over 10,000 RPM.

You can't just look at the rated RPM, you need to look at the Surface feet per minute of the disk at the outer edge.

6" dia disk has a circumference of 18.84"
4 1/2" dia disk has a circumference of 14.14"

And so it begins, he was looking for a guard, not the safety police. Just so you know I run 6" whizzer wheels on my 4.5" grinder with no guard and have been for years.

Really? I thought RPM is RPM, Revolutions Per Minute. I have never seen a disk rated at SFPM, or Surface Feet Per Minute. Regardless of what size disk it is, I would think that if that particular disk is rated to spin around at a stated RPM, and you put it on a grinder within the stated RPM, there should be no problem.

I have a few times also, but............ you got bigger balls than I do! I will if I can't get to it with a guard, but I would like to have a guard for general use. After all, I have a beautiful face to protect!!!:D:laugh::laugh::laugh:

i have a few 6" Metabo guards laying around.
If you are interested in losing or selling one, PM me, thanks.

BTW, we need a little police man or cop car with mars lights, to add to our smilie collection!!!

I guess most people haven't been around 6" grinders. Some of them have a free speed of the same 10,000 rpm that his 4 1/2" grinder has. I have one two of them that do. One has been running 6" cut off wheels in it for about 8-9 years now (with a guard most of that time).

As for the guard problem. I've got a Porter Cable 4 1/2" grinder that I made a 6" guard for to run the cut off wheels in. I keep it in my truck. I would take a picture but unfortunately my help took my truck home tonight (the truck he's driving has the rear wheels off waiting for brake parts in the morning).
