Love the square tube turned 45 degrees - you can make a whole art form out of that!

I wanted to make it study, stout and usefull. Plenty of tie off points. There will be two more on the angle iron mount in front of the tool box.

Main frame is 2x3x1/8". Mount will be 5x3x5/16ths. LED tails and turns, LED backups.

Actually, those aren't tubes but angle turned. 1 1/8"x1 1/8"x1/8" 100% welded, front and back. They got a nice ring to them. I was going to use tube but 1) would of added allot more weight, 2) the angle has sharper corners than tube.

That's purdy! What's going under the gussets to tie it to the bed? Thanks for sharing, future inspiration for sure!

How will you keep the "D" rings from rattling?
Lincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. They come and go. Growing partial to the "Short Hoods" in my old age. Last count on Short Hoods was 13 in possession.

Might dip the D's in plastic dip( tool handle dip) or a little rubber bumper on the bottom. I've got a couple of ideas.

Id try a Delrin or an industrial grade rubber block. Tool handle coating is just going to wear from straps and chains.

Very nice project though. I'm looking at making one for my truck (mainly because I don't want to send a piece of firewood though the back glass accidentally and it'd be a nice mount point for my lightbar)

Great point, I didn't even think about that.

But I do like the D rings. Very nice overall.

Work trucks rattle a lot anyways. I've got at least 20 sets of D rings mounted to the walls of my utility body and I can't ever remember hearing them rattling even when the truck was brand new and empty.

    Re: Got a little headache.

The rack looks plenty stout. The first pic almost looks like chrome, that would be a good look for it if you had it chromed. What kind of truck is this going on? I just bought a new truck last Thursday the 24th, and I will be making something for it. Probably a full length overhead rack not a headache rack like this.

You can post up to 5 pictures on each posting, so no need to make one post for each individual picture. Just a FYI. Make sure to show us what it looks like when completed and installed on the truck.

If it bothers you just turn up the radio a little more, problem solved. Not that it stops the rattleing, just can't hear it any more.

Going on a '08 Ford F350. Yes, it's stout, about 80 lbs now without mounts. Going to add a cross brace that will be in front of the tool box to protect it. Soon as this is done and powder coated I am making a rear one that will be removable. Matching the front but just a U

No. Been hitting it about 3hrs a day in between my running around for the last week. Made the backing plates for the lights, drilled holes for wiring and test fitted the grommets. Also ran wire for pulling the light wiring today.

A Headache Rack is only as good as its
    attachment.

It appears you haven't provided for this.

i think he said it's "all show and no go"

your method of attachment does look a little anemic.
perhaps there is something not shown in the pictures?
