Fibre metal pipeliner hood

Anyone have a fibre metal pipeliner hood? Is it any good? I would really appreciate feedback, as I've been wanting to purchase one, but I haven't found very much info on them!

I have one with a Miller A/D lens in it. Great hood, sturdy and compact, and I like the "old school" look. The ratchet head gear is good, but could be better.

I've used them for years, and now with the new ArcOne auto lens they are that much better. Only problem I have had is the plastic retaining clips break very often. I take the metal retaining clips out of the old Jackson hoods grind them down to fit the pipe liner.

The hood rocks, you can either A. Get a gold shaded lens, B. Go with a A/D lens. The hood has good coverage so you will never get burned. I don't use the ratchet headgear I use the hardhat adapter and it is comfy as hell. +1 Fibre Metal!

Awesome! thanks, but I won't be needing a hard hat, as I am a hobby welder LOL. Where might i find a A/D lens?

You can check on arczone website, you can buy a miller ad lens from cyberweld. usually they are plug and play minus a few brands like optrel and speedglas.

Here's the inside of mine. I love that hood! I have the rubber band head gear also, but prefer the ratchet.

You can buy the Fibre Metal pipeliner with a Fibre Metal high performance auto darkening lens already installed in it for around $200.00. from local airgas in my area. I highly recommend the newer version Fibre metal high perforemance auto dark lenses. Fibre Metal auto darkening lenses are made by Balder and the view is crystal clear and not a cheap lens which is actually a good thing when it comes to your eyes.. Overall price difference between buying the passive lens version pipeliner and adding your own Miller or Arcone auto lens would only be around $60.00 less. I have never used the Arcone or Miller Auto darkening lenses so I cant make that comparison. I personally prefer a passive lens...American Optical weld-cool, Filterweld, Lincoln High Visibility or Athermal gold for the majority of work but an autodark is a must have as well and some folks prefer to use strictly auto darkening lenses. Your call on what you prefer. Bare bones passive lens pipeliner can be purchased for just over $50.00 delivered to your door if you shop around.. add a shade 10 or 11 Athermal gold lens for another $25.00 or so and you have a hood that is hard to beat even if you were to go out and spend several hundred. But again, just my personal opinion.

However, lately I've been using a Hobart $15 pipeliner style hood from Northern Tool with the Hobart gold lens and realized I've relied on auto dark for too long ! But the difference in clarity is night and day. I can see so much better with the gold passive lens, and it doesn't have that stupid dark green night vision-like tint to it. It's almost white. Even feels easier on my eyes.

Definitely recommend the pipeliner hoods. I may buy an auto dark kit for it to keep on hand and get rid of the rhino all together.

+1 on this phillips safety sells the true glass gold lens. $20.00 bucks

Can someone comment on the weight of the Pipeliner? I have a Fibremetal Superglas 706 and it is on the heavier side. I was wondering how the Pipeliner compared.

i was interested in getting this lens and a pipeliner hood, but i noticed when i clicked on the link to buy one it said it was green tint . i hate that green tint look

They need a flip up on the pipeliner thought.

They do it is called a tiger hood. It isn't an exactly like the pipeliner but they say this is it. I have two tiger hoods.

If you want light, you want a Huntsman, the paper/cardboard one. I've been using mine for over 10 years, I love it. Not much to look at, but that slide lens sure is handy. Just don't let it get wet.

One last point to consider about the good ol' Fibre Metal pipeliner is that it is still.... MADE IN THE U.S.A. Every welder in The United States should go out and buy one for that reason alone.

I have one that's lasted me since high school. I don't use it everyday because I want it to last, but it's still 15 years old and it's still as good as day one. It's been through a few sets of headgear over the years. In my newer pipeliner hood, I run a auto darkening lens. Works great.

I have one and love it. I added a Sellstrom S27300 2" x 4 1/4" Lift Front Retainer, Fibre-Metal by Honeywell FM4001 Quick-Lok Helmet Adapter Kit and a ArcOne T240-10 Tradesman Auto-Darkening Horizontal Filter. Flip front was $20, hard hat adapter was $9, A/D was $60 and $50 for the hood.

That's all I use anymore. I like the flip front model for grinding. I use an auto dark insert lens in mine.
