Its been a thing to see, the change and I was wondering what they would come with next, how much more/better can you invent to run the same electrode but battery power is the next thing. There was someone else on a forum talking about this. I remember how long a battery lasts on a charge was a big deal, barely a thought anymore. Will this thing run a dozen, 20 3/32 7018 on a charge? The size and space and even weight in a truck is a big deal, I dont need to weld lots. 1/2 a rod to half a dozen, field work a pass around a 6 inch pipe. Weld angle on something, bracket stuff. As was pointed out line power is there which is the real deal but carrying engine drive for the rare occasion a guy might need it is,,, has always been a problem.
We need to build a tank farm or work on bucket teeth a whole nuther matter and plan for it but I can go a long time these days without lighting a torch and I really only have a few generic tools, always something newer and easier to cut metal.

The weldan power was invented to replace a SA for general work. I think Dave and certainly Brand X have helped push this along by pointing out better and cheaper, sometimes both. As big a fan as I am of the welding equipment companies if I was going to home hobby engine drive today would be interested in the economy inverter. It takes a long time for a few hours a non professional and in some cases pro to add up some real work hours on one. The demand is often low, low power, today light weight and fuel and low cost is a BONUS.

    Looks great 👍
I think that work great with with a Lincoln SA200. No more trailer need just a back pack for employees and short cables too.

    They reckon about 20odd 3/32 7018 rods, I'm guessing 10 1/8.
Never used the battery myself, but I've used the welder on 110v and 240v, it's super smooth and powerful, even off long extensions.

Re: who makes the #1 welding machines/ equipment

Thats a lot of power really. Wonder if it can be installed in series with whatever power a guy has, Hobart had one they claimed could "read" the inverter and not overload it. It was wire feed though. Battery adds to the output, the machine could do 130A from a 15A circuit for limited amount cause it used the battery in reserve. While it looks fantastic for climbing around lots of those places got power.
The backpack deal looks kind of gimmick, getting in to that outfit would get old but handling like suitcase is easy. I got one little dent in my max from erection work, even though its small its a habit to jump around with lead and you got to move 3 pieces to reach the end of a trailer or building bay and 25 ft extension is handy.

You need a helper with the backpack welder. Be awkward as heck to change your heat. Would be great for some jobs though.

That's what I thought at first. Turns out, the Lorch backpack welders have a remote control to change the settings. Pretty trick.

The Fronius one works like that. The battery is built into the welder. The mains cable charges the battery, and the welder always runs off the battery.

Re: who makes the #1 welding machines/ equipment

The Maxstar has put the nail in my engine drives. The battery one wouldnt have saved me any money but I can see for a busy guy in remote places it could. I am a career welder and I bout got to keep an engine around but I dont use it. More like a fire truck or weapon,,, can if I got to cause I got it. But back in the day you couldnt really weld from 120V so anything remote was engine.

Places had 120 single but no 240 set up for plug in equipment. I know maint bought Max for that reason in some big plants, so much of the worlds welding work is simple light bracket stuff and more all the time. When I started there was still a lot of job shop built stuff still in service, made from angle, channel, flat bar and sheet. Some pipe. I beams too but now so much is formed from sheet. Gauges lighter.

Japan has their own top-tier brands, as well. Panasonic, Daihen, etc., and a bunch of lesser known brands that hold up. I see the same in the Korea market, with their own high quality domestic brands.
    Panasonic YC-300BP2
    Panasonic YC-200BL3
