Price for steel plate

I was quoted a price of $90 for a piece of steel 1/4 X 2ft X 3ft. That seems expensive to me, since guys here have been talking about buying steel for less than $.50/lb. But then, I'm new. The seller told me that plate was especially expensive--true?

Edit: Sheesh. With ONE phone call I found a place a little bit further away that is half the price. I'm learning.
