hi guys I have a 2006 year Trailblazer 302 diesel and its been quite some time since ive been on here i had trouble with my welder after jump starting it...anyway got that sorted out. Now im wondering about the idle lock function were you can lock it in idle mode or run mode what exactly is this used for. if i weld at lower amps can i use the idle function and save fuel or what is it for.

Thanks
Ben

It's more for the RUN position function (notice there's no typical RUN position for the ignition switch) for TIG welding with HF arc starter that requires 115VAC from an auxiliary power outlet but one can do other light welding while locked at the IDLE position as well.

I actually don't know what your limitations will be so you'll have to give it a try. Arc starting will be a little different as well at the lower OCV the slower idle speed will result in.

To produce proper AC power and TIG with HF yes, but LIGHT welding can be done at the lower idle speed.

Not doubting you but that must be very light welding or the diesel drives must be different then the gas drives. I was burning 309l 3/32 at 65 amps yesterday. Had the machine set on run/idle and it would go from idle to run when i was welding. Might be a good reason to run the diesel drive instead of gas. Just always found it hard to justify the extra cost of the diesel.
