Thanks guys. I took those with my new iPod Touch, easier to sneak some pics with than the old digital camera.
I capped those on 210 amps with a Miller Pipeworx 400 , all rollouts in the positioner, of course. I used a #12 jumbo gas lens, argon blasting. The pipe was a low temp service, special wire, I believe it was 80S2-N1. Not sure about the S2 part...they already had the wire picked out when I got in yesterday, so I just started burning. Biggest they bought was 1/8'', that's what I capped with.

I have wondered what that old pipeliner asked about myself when seeing razors and soda cans welded together. What's the real point of doing it? No real need or use for something like that, that I know of.

that's the positioner pedal, Ive got a pedal under each foot while doing those rollouts, it's kinda awkward. I wish we had the thumb wheels on the torch instead of the foot pedal.

Ok gotcha Tim. The two pedals attatched to each other messed me up. Are they forward and reverse pedals? I have a small positioner that has a forward reverse switch. I'm sure yours is a beast.

I kind of always figured it was cheap practice for very thin work?
I don't know how thin practical applications get though.

yep, that's the forward and reverse. This company I work for manufactures these positioners, they are some bad mamma-jammas! They're Cadillacs, when you hit the up or down button the turntable levels itself as it's going up or down. Check it out:

Did a quick "IT rack" while I'm upgrading the company's network. All stainless with some for wood shelf that I found in storage used as a top. Didn't really go all out making it pretty, as it will reside in a closet for the rest of it's life.

Not done with the upgrade, so that is why the wires are still a mess

Okay, I was just messing around so nobody run me out on a rail, but can you tell me what causes all this brown discoloration? Is that due to having oil on the metal? I was just experimenting, so I didn't clean it.

And also started on a house warming gift for my parents. They just bought their very first house, and after some talk, they decided they wanted a stainless steel mailbox. And of course the old man said he wan'ts it polished. Work in progress, but you get the point. all parts are 14ga the inside floor and the inside of the door are going to be done in the quilted type material (sort of like you see on some nicer urinal stall separators) in 16 gauge.
Overall measurments are 26" deep, 12" tall and 12" wide

Looks good. Did you have to put the bend in the sheet or just flex it around?

Welding razor blades for me is a little accomplishment check, helps teach me to control heat input, steadiness and its just cool.

thanks. I put it through the rolls to achieve the radius. Had some minor tweaking to do with the clamps, but nothing too bad

here's the completed spool in the positioner for welding, my second to last project in that shop, I'm done. They started sandblasting all the bevels and leaving the land on instead of prepping them right. The whole job is TIG root, all that sand and land just made every root a challenge and a struggle, I finally got tired of fighting it and quit.

    Tim,

When I first saw that picture with the dual foot pedal in it I wondered if maybe you had a Team Industries positioner. The company I work for recently got a used, factory reconditioned, Gen IV one. Of all the different positioners I've used over the years this has to be one of the nicest. I'm really impressed with the gripper on it. That auto-leveling feature is kind of handy too.

What do you have for a remote rotational speed control? We're needing to get one of those and since it seems you've got a lot of experience running one I was hoping for your input. We're mainly going to be using ours for wire welding of pipe and it sure would be nice to be able to turn the speed up between passes to go around the joint with a wire wheel (at higher RPM than what your welding at) with out having to go back to the main control box on the positioner to do it.

Re: Show us what you welded today!

We had a box that was used on the local setting that we used when running sub arc so you didn't have to stand there and mash the pedal the whole time. You can change the speed with the box, but then you don't have the pedal option so you can't feather the speed, it's all or nothing. I think you're stuck with going back to the positioner to change speeds.

4956 we use pandjuris positioners and our pendent has a rheostat, FWD, REVS, stop, and E stop. The rheostat in the pendant controlls the percent of maximum rotation speed that the rheostat in the foot pedal can demand. It looks like a crane remote and is connected by a 24 pin military type screw on connector, have your maintanace electrician look into it.
