Nice work Moto. Looks like your shop does some quality work...unlike the clowns who built my trailer. I think it was welded by a squad of pigeons flying overhead!

Nothing as heavy duty as what y’all are working on, but the kids and I are building a drift trike. Our welds are 50/50 good vs. “well I suppose we’ll grind that and try it again”, lol.

I think our frame is overbuilt, but that might help with some rigidity. We’re using 1 1/4” tubing with a 1/8” wall. The frame is flat and square. Weird tacking in the bearing hangers tonight and will start on the front end as soon as the back wheels come in. We’re going to try and use the height of the back wheels to set the neck angle on the front end so that the frame is flat.

Then it will just be paint, and bolt the engine and everything on. Hope to be riding by spring break!

These sides are 10 gauge and the inside is 3/16 hardox. It’s kinda a though weld to make look really good it’s a over head weld. Did some straight up overhead to that I like to do besides the the really acute ones, about wasted half my brand new glove doing it and really had to block myself with it. The straight up weld was lap Joint and I didn’t have a big problem with sparks and molten metal falling like the really acute angle weld overhead. Did some one hand welding too that came out good that were overhead since the box is about 3’ off the ground the ground And isn’t level. So it’s even tighter on one sideName: ECC4BCD5-9C88-4EED-AE40-08FA325501E1.jpg

I find these very useful, especially with flux core welds, really long mig welds, and on overhead welds. I just get the ones at tractor supply. Not really expensive either.

I have a TS next to where my day job is. Often I stop in to grab something at lunch time. I've been lucky, they've had one on the rack the last 2 times I needed one. I've never seen more than one on the rack at one time. A lot of their inventory is like that, I guess it depends on the store manager.

Awesome job and great Father daughter time . A Dynabrade 1/2x18 belt sander would be perfect for cleaning that up. I bought one years ago for my artwork and it is always used. They have a 1/4x18 belt and a matching contact arm/wheel. Once you use it you'll be hooked. the 1/2'' belts work on the narrow contact arm.

I think I have one of those. Makita brand. Somewhere in the shop. That’s a great idea! Thank you!

It wasn't much, but I re-fangled my forklift trailer hitch to fit the heavier new forks I got for it. They were narrower than the plywood forks it had, so I added some centering guides and some extra top straps. Name: 20210208_125739.jpg

Dis one more project today for the farm next door, put a 5" air vent riser on a 10" sleeve. The moron that marked and cut the hole (me) bumped his compass and didnt check the mark before cutting the hole. Hey I'm perfect, right? So I got to do a little open root uphill to fill the goof. Didnt take long with the wire feed. I lost the pic of the uphill weld. Then ran 2 downhill passes to fill it out. Been a lot of talk about both positions lately so I thought what the heck and ran it that way. Name: 20210208_122534.jpg

That 3rd pic down shows some undercut on the bracket, you might try using a J pattern that pushes some of the weld up to the bracket. Just a suggestion.

There was a big gap and we run 23.3 volts 350 wire. I’ll look into that movement. I think I do that movement actually and did it here
