just welded the triangle on the bottom, the bosses weld is above that. Did all the welding below the angle pieces on the headboard. That’s core below and hard wire above. Did some other welding on the outside also just didn’t get a chance to get the pic. And made the center weld down the dog house in one run and all the core wire welds on the front

back at it tomorrow and will be starting couple new boxes I think. Worked with the boss most the day

We don’t do any bending. There is a tiny bender I use to make jigs for marking out for skip welding made out of 1”x3/16

Hey MOTO,, we used to make a BIG weldment that was like that truck body,,

We had a problem keeping the assembly leak tight (part of it was the "roof" )
so the local welding supply recommended we get a positioner that could rotate the entire assembly.

Partially we bought a big rotator, then designed a couple bracket type arms that held the entire weldment.

At a push of a button, the welder could reposition the entire thing.
Well, since the welding was now easier to get to, ALL of the leaks were eliminated,,

The BIG plus was that the same guys could fab almost 3X as many assemblies in the same time.
(No one expected the output improvement, that was just a surprise plus that came with eliminating the leaks)

The welders were MUCH happier, because they had to do so much less bending, climbing, and contorting to get the welding done.

Your boss would be a "little happy" if you guys could do 3X as much work, in the same time,,
and,, you would be WAY less exhausted at the end of the day,,

Talk him into getting some positioner help.. if you guys really want to make some $$$$$$$$$$,,,

The "boss" uses grocery carts for welding carts... I'm going to go out on a limb and guess a positioner is not in the cards.

Had an oops last week. Honest the forklift did it, not me.
Anyways the tool rest on the big Jet bench grinder got broke, local dealer has no idea when a new one might get here. So before I build a new one myself, thought I would just weld or braze the broken one. This is cheap cast iron and my brazing patience was not there today.
So I used a couple pieces of 5/16" rod and migged it. Used little tacks and moved around stopping the puddle just before the cast iron wanted to fizz. Bolted it back on and gave it a few smacks with a hammer and it held just fine.

Forklift survived just fine. I was trying to squeeze a trailer axle into a tight spot, should have just lifted up another foot.

Yeah, at the time I was squeezing around a truck in the other bay. It gets cluttered sometime when things get busy. A half hour later the parts guy dropped off a cam sensor and Mr. truck was gone.

Yesterday, a convoluted item to electrically bond a pool coping (trim molding surrounding an indoor pool). It was installed in 1990, virtually all safety regulations were ignored. No one knows who manufactured it. It is not bonded. Coping is heavily oxidized. It was once 1/16" thick. I came up with a plan to comply with safety law in effect in 1990. It is a complex device to weld to the coping & miss other mechanicals.

Today we installed it. It included a tricky weld to aluminum so corroded it didn't readily weld.
Actual weld: 5 minutes or less.
Dismantling welder ETC to make 5 minute weld: 2 hours.

I once had a Miller Diversion 180. It'd be the perfect portable for this job.





It'll be gobbered with the gunk I ground away. If I left an ice cream cone it'd be hidden by the coating. I was terrified I'd burn through the oxidized coping with the flap disc.

I feel ya, working in a steel mill ain't all sunshine and rainbows. Got me a weld job tomorrow at work. I'll try to remember to get a picture or two. Don't typically like taking my phone out of the breakroom.

Elsewhere. There in an in line device bonding pool water. This is a salt water pool, water is very conductive. Lots of precautions to prevent electric shock. Shock requires electrons to move from one object to another passing through a body. If in an electrical sense all conductive items are one, no place for electrons to flow to.

welded A lot more than that. Put over 100' of weld down today. Haven't wires wheeled the side floor weld yet. Ran the over head side on a other box in the morning and dialed a straight drag bead down real good while keeping the edge

the boss has me pretty much welding all day now. Definitely gets me tired. Getting it done tho and my arc time under my belt. Went around the whole bottom side of the dog house the other day with out breaking the arc and found out at the end it was half full of holes lol. We've been fighting gas issues for a couple days the other day
