In the 1960s Dad & I were members in a camp, 100 acres in the middle of National Forest. It is now surrounded by Lye Brook Wilderness Area. One November in the late 60s we came upon tracks. Artie thought it must be a tiny log skidder. We later learned it was a Jigger, a little yellow six tired bathtub, maybe 8 HP. I was VERY impressed!

Later, other ATV owners each made their pitch to the camp owner. One very unsavory character was the Coot dealer. Coot was amphibious, four 600-16 military tires & hinged in middle.

That is very seriously cool! When I first discovered the Jigger, later the Coot my world was 50,000 acres. We had to be stewards of the land, we NEVER contributed to a rut (never put a tire in the bottom of a rut) we cleaned all water bars after crossing, and cleaned all turn outs. That respect for the land earned us access to a big space.

New managers of Federal land say NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES on most log roads. Where you are allowed to travel, you must stay in the bottom of the ruts. I'm so confused!

Now my off road world is down to 19 acres. No, I haven't moved.

I welded these saw horses 25 years ago,, but, I used them today,,



They are made out of wide flange 6" beam, 5 feet long, with 5/16" X 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 " angle for the legs.

Here is a little more detail of the end.



I used these to build my shed, then I used them to feed a horizontal band saw for over 12 years.
at times, the two horses had way over 5,000 pounds of steel on them, and they never even wiggled.

When I was using them to feed the saw, I wanted the long material to be sliding down hill,,
so, I cut the legs on one horse, so that it is 4" shorter than the other.

It was amazing how that little bit of down hill made the steel MUCH easier to slide.

Here is what I used the saw horses for today,,
I put my recently completed picnic table frame up on the horses so that it could be painted without bending over so much.

Then I flipped the picnic table over onto the ground so the remainder could be painted,,



The seats of this picnic table will be 22 inches high,,
WHY does everybody build picnic tables so low?
(everyone in our family is tall)

The wheel is on it so that it can be moved like a wheel barrow when it is time to mow the grass,,
Is this the first ever wheeled picnic table??

Man, I love Dual shield of most types, Back in the day on heavy Yellow stuff and fixing drilling equipment it was the cats meow. Nowadays I don't see much heavy stuff and almost miss that. (sorta)

Now, let me tell you a little story....................

There's a trailer manufacturer in the next town. Actually a fairly big one.

They allowed their welders to run downhill. Poor welders, little skill. It's all about what ya gotta pay for labor.

The trailers are sold all over the country, including California.

Cali, from what I understand, has pretty strict DOT rules.

Anyways.........and I heard this from a dood that works at the plant..............

Some downhill welds failed spectacularly. The trailers were purchased by some County shops.

After the failure, all trailers from this company were stricken from the bid list in the Counties.

Dooood that runs the company started a program to educate the welders. Hired some sorta QC dood.

Anyways.................uphill was the rule from there on forward. Lot of the old welders lost their jobs because they couldn't do the uphill thing.

These were pintle hook trailers used to haul backhoes, and dozers.............not half azz utility trailers. It just about put the company out of business.

When I say "work of art", I'm referring to uniformity, not that fishscale bull****. You're getting back to old bad ways. This is steel, not aluminum welded with TIG

There was a guy on here, y'all probably remember him..............AKA Weldshop. Best dam welder I've ever seen. He was meticulous, and did it right. YOU GOT THAT IN YOU, DON'T F'K IT UP BY REVERTING TO BAD HABITS.

You guys are lightyears ahead of what I'm capable of, and I admire it. But ya gotta stick between the lines. Don't mess it up.

Anytime you push back into the puddle to make that pattern, it takes the heat out of the steel. You're putting the arc back into the puddle, not the steel. The wire should be just ahead of the puddle, placing maximum heat into the steel. You're short changing yourself.

Used the high lift pallet jack instead of the forklift.
