Everlast PowerPlsma 50 Plasma machine quit working

Greetings, new member looking for some advice. I have been using a PowerPro 50 for about 7 months without any problems. I bought it second hand from an older gentleman who rarely used it. It worked well from the start. Yesterday as I was cutting a 1/4" piece of stock. I finished one cut and relocated the work piece for the next cut. However when I went to start cutting I couldn't get an arc start.. Nothing happened at all. I checked the fuse on the front and it is good. It is basically dead in the water. I am thinking there may be a fusible link of some sort or a way to reset it.

    Any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Pat

You mean you have a PowerPLASMA 50? Depending upon how old it is, it could be HF start or blowback start. No fuseable link. Have you checked the consumables? Make sure they are tight. The switch wires could have gotten pulled off the switch inside the torch handle, if it's the newer style. Do you hear air coming out when you press the switch? If the air pressure drops below 35-40psi, it will cut the unit off as well. Do you have an air dryer mounted inline before the water trap/filter?

Re: Everlast PowerPro 50 Plasma machine quit working

Thanks for the reply and information. Correct, PowerPlasma 50. I must have read PowerPro a million times while researching this problem. I replaced the consumables once it would not start, but the ones I tossed were rather new and in good shape. I had plenty of air pressure at about 75 psi at the machine and I can hear air flow. I do have an air dryer, actually two with one being a dryer used in a paint shop. I will take the handle / whip apart and make sure everything is connected properly. Is there anywhere I can download a better manual then the poorly translated 2 stapled page manual that came with this machine? That manual is almost useless.

Also, the guy I bought this from had extra consumables that I am going through and will need to buy. I can't seem to find any online presence for Everlast. Any ideas where I could go to buy what I need?

Thanks again for the reply and information. really apreciated.

Well, the torch was the problem, but not sure why as yet. I disassembled the torch and used a DVM to check continuity and made sure everything was tight. Reassembled it and hooked everything up and it scratch starts as it used to. I don't think this model torch arc starts without contacting the work piece. I did happen to find a link in someones signature to everlastgenerators.com and bingo I found a real Manual and parts.

@lugweld, thanks a ton for the pointers and help, much appreciated. I am also very happy to have found a real link to Everlast since the only manual I had began by "Describing the Erection" nice..

If it's a powerplasma, it absolutely does have a pilot arc. If it's a cut 50, it doesn't. Still not sure what you have with the scratch start desciption...or what torch you have. If you don't have a pilot arc, and it's a true powerplasma 50, then you need to contact tech support at ext 207.

it's a PowerPlasma 50, it does not start unless I contact the workpeice, trigger depressed. It looks like it was made in Feb. 2012. I will call tech support now that I have found a number. again, thanks for your help. I am happy to find a dealer/user community with such quick support. Take care and happy holidays.

Sound like there may be an issue with the pilot arc wire on the torch, or at the connector. Do you have a central connector that has a single connection with a copper piece sticking out the middle, or do you have a screw on brass fitting out the front?

I have included pics of what I have. Looks like an S45 torch and the standard center pole connector. When I had the torch body apart, i did check those wires and everything seemed connected correctly. However there could be a short or a poor connection at the unit.

    Thanks

If the torch has been replaced or the wrong pinout applied, it could be it just needs to be repinned to match the units pinout...which would be a step you may be able to check for yourself. Unfortunately, we've changed the pinout from the standard pinout usually seen, but this torch allows many different configurations, so it's very possible the pinout is off or as you said, a loose connection.

Re: Everlast PowerPro 50 Plasma machine quit working

I called the 877 x207 number and left my contact info. I got a call back quickly from Ray but I did not see the VM until after work. I am going to call them first thing tomorrow. I really appreciate your help, that and the quick call back is more customer service than one usually gets anymore.

If you have the pin out would you be able to post that on this forum? I am definitely calling Ray back tomorrow but having that would be nice.

No, I don't have the pin out. As I said, it has changed. Ray can help you determine it.

Re: Everlast PowerPro 50 Plasma machine quit working

It turned out to be the Torch pin outs being misconnected. I ended up swapping pins 1-9 and 4-7 around and it works as designed, starts fine and post flow works.

Thanks again @Lugweld for the help. Great support.

That's good news. Consumables should last longer too.
