    Here are a few good rules, I will post the complete procedure for splicing if you want, but it is almost 10 pages. This is from my old Ironworkers rigging book from my apprentice days.

    Honestly, since its just 3/8" and used for dragging logs, you could splice a two tuck eye instead of a three or four tuck "loggers" splice. That's all I have ever put in 3/8" haywire. Remember this, over one and under two.

    It requires no special tools, even on 2"+ wire diameter. We use it for when we break a tow wire on a tug boat and don't have the time or tools to pour a new socket.
