    Re: Trailer fail pics

I lost a hub just like that on the 10 freeway in AZ. I had service the hubs about 1500 miles prior to the trip. Sometimes **** just happens. But I was not original owner of trailer so prob some prior wear on the bearings or something. Now I do all new bearings whenever I buy a used trailer.

That hub needs to go to Zap's shop. He loves repairs like that.

    Re: Trailer fail pics

Didn't get a pic, but a few days ago saw a guy on the side of the freeway, he "HAD" been towing a boat on a trailer.
Across 6 lanes of traffic @ 65mph, I could tell what happened. The tongue was butt welded about 6" forward of where the outer rails met.

Perfect break along the weld line. Held up traffic for miles.

i don't know squat about trailer/clevis hitches but i'm pretty sure bolting one to sheet metal with a washer back up is frowned upon in most places. i could be wrong though.

    I'm sure it is.
It was flimsy sheet metal, with no strenth.

You can turn it, if you have about four acres of pavement. Weird.

    Re: Trailer fail pics

Looks like the tubes that the hitches are attached to can slide in and out. The chains keep them from coming all the way out. So turning would be possible, but still couldn't do anything tight. Not sure how it deals with uneven ground though, as the hitches want the car wheels and trailer wheels to be in the same plane (flat road). Way to way overcomplicate a simple ball with absolutely no benefits.
