Almost all trailer crashes are due to idiots not connecting trailer to vehicles properly and not using safety chains, followed by people over loading them and then losing control, usually on a big hill with a curve..
Because some people use 1 7/8 because everything fits it and their bumper doesnt have a place to hook the chains to. Or people think gross trailer weight is just advertising.

I had to fix this one a while back. The driver went under a bridge and the arm on the backhoe that was on the trailer was taller than the bridge.
My dad has a trailer that he bought at home depot with welds like that.
After seeing those mass produced trailers and what kind of welds are on those. I trust my welds a he double hockey sticks a lot better than what's on those trailers.
And imagine how many of those trailers with those welds are rolling down the road right now.
My welds aren't fantastic but I can do a lot better than what's on those crappy trailers even if I have to grind out and redo them. "Which I did on my bumper pull conversion."
I ground out the bad looking welds and redid them so they're much better now.

There's a swedish version of that too! Or rather, caravans added to the much more common "folkrace", where six cars at a time races usually three laps for points. Being Sweden, the cars are mostly modified for safety (rollcage, seatbelts, seats etc.), and with mostly european cars we can actually have tracks with multiple hard turns in both ways, unlike our american counterparts.
in the UK, they do it with double decker busses.

Hope this guy got caught and had good insurance.
bridge repairs from an impact like that start with 6 figures. I think the last impact repair project i was in charge of was the cheapest at about 150k.
not to sound petty, but if they can't catch the guy who did it the tax payers of the state end up footing the entire bill.
about 6 years ago we had someone bend two girders on a bridge and didn't get caught. we ended up spending a ton of money just to tear the bridge down because the cost of fixing it was enormous and we could live without the bridge.
hope he got caught. and had to pay for the repairs.... his trailer should be the least of his concerns IMO.
Last year there was an entire bridge knocked into the river below by a big rig that hit the side on I-5, North of Seattle.
There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.

Brother and I had one of those sphincter tightening jobs the other week. We were parked on the side of the road picking up some free flower bulbs for my sister in law, and a guy hauling lost the trailer. Thank goodness he had his safety chains on, or he would have cleaned us out, and totalled my brothers Tahoe. I would never have heard it coming.

Maybe this isn't a total fail, but a buddy picked this up at auction for $100 and wanted me to fix it. It's getting scrapped. From the best we can tell it got rear ended. Still rolls though. Probably salvage the axle.
Saw a 3 wheeled tandem axle trailer leavimg the scrap yard when I passes by.
It wasnt just missing the tire the entire hub was gone.
Had no time to get a picture of that one.
like I said, they weld on the spindle nuts on and run them till the wheels literally fall off.
Then at lunch I watched a trailer dump metal in the road amost as soon as it pulled out from the pipe and iron place, at least 2 cops saw it happen and just kept on going. I thought the only thing our useless *** cops did here was inforce traffic code.
Nope.
There is no safe place on the road from New Mexico tagged trailers.
Behind them? No, something is bound to fall off or break off.
I front of them? Only untill you get stopped at one of our pointless millions of stop lights and they rear end you.
The opposite lane? No thats got to be the worst.
You think they would be safe sitting still? Nope, saw one that had collapsed because they put so much weight on it the leveling jack sheared, folded over and broke the tongue when it all hit the ground.
Its not like it rains here so they are not rusted out.

There is some guy who posted an add on Kijiji looking for a welder to fix and brace his boat trailer.
No wonder it broke.
Here is the full add if you are interested in seeing the kind of boat...
