Welderj I agree.
CEP is special in his own sort of way too. His parents probably appreciate him more than most of us just like the one that created that piece of work in your photo appreciates his creation more than the rest of us.

I only meant it reminded me of CEP because it's converted from bumper to fifth wheel. I hope he don't take that the wrong way.

Worked for some of them as well. There is so much fail on that last picture I wouldn't know where to start. Nice to see the strap " gussets" for extra insurance though.

Those I-beam spacers look like mobile home frame pieces to me.

No, they were heavier than that, but just barely. I like how he mixed them up so the stress points were not in line.

Well since he changed them up so the stress isn't in line, and they're heavier than mobile home frame, and have a couple flat straps for supports - I'm sure hauling a D9 is a good idea...

I'm comfortable sticking with "yikes" lol

You should see the bobcats and bobclones on 4400lb landscaping trailers being pulled by half tons round here by a certian group notorious for never carrying auto insurance.
These trailers ride lower than a frogs *** and the tow vehicles front tires could roll over a snail with out cracking the shell, and of course these trailers don't have brake hubs.

Well, he did maintain that ever important frame flexibility that some like to see. This was right by the road so I could get pics from the ditch, but he had a whole farm full of this type of gems.

Came across this today. It might be a little light in the fore/aft bracing. It does remind me of CEP in some ways, don't know why, but it does.

He should have used some chopped up pieces of frame rail from a rusted out pickup truck. I hear those things are STRONG!

That pic reminds me not of CEP per say, but of what CEP armed with a 12-pack of beer and a cutting torch would do to that piece of $h!t. He'd saw it with the torch, then tell the owner "now, do it right this time."

WOW! Is about all I can say about welderj's picture. I think if that's all I had to work with. I would have log cabined the beams, and welded in a bunch of web to flange gussets, and some X-bracing. Hard to believe that thing can go down the road, and the cops not pull him over!

The tractor-trailer pics remind me of last month my wife and I were returning from buying some goats, at the interchange under construction going from 77 south to 40 W in Statesville. The first thing we saw on 40 was a set of semi trailer wheels caught in the median cable barrier. Just down the road on the right was the tractor stopped with the trailer dragging. we could still smell burning rubber and the driver was just getting out of the semi. Thankfully it wasn't a "your number is up" situation.

I ran into this thread some time back, and could identify with the need to get it done with what you can scrounge with no money to work with. I had spent quite a few years in the far north woods of Minnesota with no money and much to do. While I don't condone the trailer, or tow vehicle it may be better than a 110 mig can do.

Daeyel we still use em lol. They've recently started upgrading though. Still got a few mid 80s 5-ton trucks though.
