Between my farmer buddies and me, I think we found a match for your spoked wheel. It's a gauge wheel from a horse drawn Cockshutt plow (somebody improved the colors on this one...) ... it is an old one.

Good sleuthing. Maybe a gauge wheel for a big one way disc ?

Maybe some regions call them a disc plow. Anyhow an offset disc with only one gang.

    Re: Welding table picture thread

Discs would have been later... by the time you started adding more horsepower and tillage, the wheel designs started changing to compensate for the higher demands. That's what threw me off with yours... the center reminds me of a large auger pulley more than a wheel. A lot of the later wheels would have heavier rims, weights added and often a solid center rather than spokes, or more round spokes. I know the spokes on that one aren't an exact match, but I think it's a later version of a very similar machine rather than a heavier machine.

However... I have been wrong before...this one also looks very close but it was a Chattanooga plow manufactured in the US, unless Cockshutt made a similar version up here. The Chattanooga was bought out by IHC. Apparently you could flip from one disc to the other for going back and forth on the field.

Those wheels look similar in type. I think you are right. The ridged wheel was designed to be directional.

I kept looking at it as a clod buster or (oversized) press wheel
    for a seed drill

Still... I think it puts you back into the late 1800's, early 1900's.... interesting piece of history in your new table...
