oh, I didnt realize you were putting it on casters... I would definitely make the frame a lot stronger then. Your casters are going to put a moment arm on those uprights and make them prone to flex. I do agree that 6 casters is too much to try to push around.

Just when I thought my table was perfect for me and would never need to be re-built, this thread shows up.

You all have done a very nice job and there are some really cool ideas here.

The vise is not that bad, it is a cheap (but nice) Wilton I picked up from a tool store in Tennessee for about $40 because the box was wet.

The holes are 9/16" because that was the smallest annular cutter we had for the mag drill at work. I got half way done and the cutter decided to explode after hitting a hard spot in the material. Had to switch over to the 100lb Milwaukee with a twist drill to finish the rest.

I kind of layed out a grid pattern between the under table supports and the holes are 3" apart. After using the table for a couple of projects I should have put a hole in the "dead space" between the other holes because there is always that time where one is too close and the other is too far away.

I think 5/8" is the standard but I'm not sure.

Here's the beginning of mine, just got it back last night. Not the greatest pictures but, you get the idea. 2'x3'x1/2" with 5/8 holes. I'll be doing the same layout for my 2'x3'x1" plates as well, at least one of them.





A lot of nice looking table. Hopefully mine will look half as good as the ones in here.

i was told the same thing. table looks really good but its not worth the money. take the time, build your own and save some money.

Top is 3/4" 4' x 8' it has a 4" channel iron frame with one support in the center the long way.
I also welded two chains to the table and welding vice grips on them so I don't have to hunt them down.
If I need to move it I use the forklift

Here's my table it's 2ft 6in wide x 5ft 8in long and the top is 3/8in also it stands 39 inches off the floor. It has a small 24 x 24in fold away cutting table on the side. I know 39in off the floor is pretty high but it's comfortable for me to use.

I notice on this page that one builder has 9/16th holes and the other is using 5/8? Any reason for the difference? I'm looking at putting holes in my table.

I made mine 9/16" because that was the only small bit we had for the mag drill at work, if it ever becomes a problem I'll drill them to 5/8". I mainly use the cheap HF drill press hold down clamps but can also use milling machine hold down tooling.

Wow! lots of nice tables. I'll post mine for giggles, lightweight is what I wanted so it's all alum 3'x4' with a pretty basic 3"x3"x1/4" angle frame and a 3/8" top. Lucked out and the top 6061 plate was within a few 10K" of flat so I just screwed it down. Works very well for me and I can load it in the back of the truck myself without getting a hernia . A few internal clamp points would be nice but so far I'm good with a 6" edge all around. Plumbed a few air fittings in and all my primary tools are handy.

Bottom line ?
The top frame is channel. PERIOD. Either put 6 little tacks(1/2"long) on the plate or bolt it down.
If its 1/2" thick---or more... a 4 x 8 is 640 lbs so, unless you're going to take it to the flea market just sit the damn top on the frame( channel right ?) lever it around and forget it.
It won't fly away.

Got it up on its feet today with the help of a shop crane and heavy chain.



Spent a good deal of time cleaning the heavy anti-corrosion oil off of it.



I do believe that my garage is now "full".



All of the big or heavy things are on casters, so when I start a welding project I simply back the car out and move everything into place. It all tucks away pretty well when I'm done.
