Does anyone have some info on the old Spoolmate 200 welders? I've found one locally for $400 and am contemplating picking it up. I currently have a Lincoln 180T MIG, would the older Miller be an upgrade?

The old Spoolmate welders use a spoolgun and all of the ones that i have seen are missing the spoolgun and hard and expensive to replace. So if it has the spoolgun and seems to work i would give it a try...Bob
the spoolmate power source is a clone of a millermatic 200 without a wire feeder.i had one with a spoolmatic 1 and another with a miller 52e wire feeder.they are excellent machines .400 is reasonable if everything is working on same and it has a wire feeder or spool gun..parts are easily obtainable from miller for less.

ps the lincoln is why i dont still have them, twas an even swap
As Felon points out, the Spoolmate 200 is a 'clone' of the first generation MM200 and as such is wired for use with the Spoolmatic-1 as a direct connect. I too suggest you find out if it comes equipped with a gun if you don't know already.
A SM-3 will also work but you have to change the 14-pin plug to a 4-pin or use the $100 adapter cord from Miller (or make your own). You can also use a Spoolmate 15A or 30A but you'd also need a WC-24 weld controller and that adapter cord again so that option would quickly get cost prohibitive.
Thanks for the replies. After checking out the specs from the link aametalmaster posted I'll have to pass on this one. With my current situation I have to be able to pick up my welder and move it about 100 feet between the storage space and the welding area. The Miller weighs something like 175 lbs, so thats not gonna work! The machine does come complete with a spoolgun and is in working order according to the seller. If anyone around WNC is interested I can forward the guys info.
