    Trailer steps

Lady friend of mine has a horse trailer, floor about 2 feet off the ground. She has a couple of bad knees and wanted a sturdy step with a 7" rise and 12" tread, to get up and down. Fab'd one up for her.

Frame is 24" W x 24" L x 14" H. Made it with 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 1/8" angle, step braces are 1" x 1" x 1/8" angle, and the feet (for soft ground) are 2" x 1/8" bar, expanded metal is 3/4" x #9. The expanded metal is for muddy boots, better traction and lighter weight. Stick welded it with 3/32" 7014 and the expanded metal tacked with 5/32" 6013 (that thin stuff burns thru pretty easy).

Best thing is that they are light enough for her to move around...only about 35 lbs. is my guess. Thanks for the comments.

Looks good, I'm sure it's strong nuff . I like 7014 rods too.

Do you have a typo on the 6013? 5/32" is a little big for expanded metal - maybe you meant 5/64" ?

Dave, good eye! Typo, yes. Thanks for catching it. The 6013's were 5/64". Too dang many fractions in that writeup.

To keep from burning thru the expanded stuff, I struck an arc on the angle iron like a tack, let the puddle form, then just drug it up on the expanded real quick and pulled off. The 6013's are better for low penetration on the expanded, too.
