Did you take the tank back? I just wonder what they would say when you tell them they gave you bad gas.

    "Did you just change tanks?"

Yes, new tank last week but I never stuck an arc with it.

    Bad mix:

Thanks again Duaneb55 I just wasn't getting the weld I should have, although it could just be me. There was no spark when the wire touched the work and took off a cap to have it checked at a local electronics supply. They said it was bad so new caps are on the way. MM200's are fantastic machines.

I may need to replace mine, I get a spark when I touch it to ground but it just doesn't weld right. I haven played with it in a long time so I need to get it working right.

I'm planning to replace my caps in my MM200 soon as a preventative measure. Are you still satisfied that the part number on the cap is the best choice? Cheapest I've found that exact one is $25 each but that's ok, the machine doesn't owe me a thing.

I come up with miller P/N 084087 which supersedes to 156517 which is $25 each on miller4less, they are 15000uf and 45 vdc

Anyone objections to using this route?

    Nope. None here.

I didn't look it up to confirm the PN but the 15,000uF and 45VDC are the correct specs for the eight unit capacitor bank. The earlier six unit would require a 20,000uF rating unless one choses to increase to the later eight unit bank which would also require replacing the earlier, shorter connector bars of the six unit pack.

Maybe I better pop the cover and see what I got first. The online manual under a 200 showed what I'm talking about, it showed 8. Mine is a black face.

As I posted in your thread:

    "That's a smoking deal!
Anyone thinking of replacing their 8-pack capacitor bank should do it NOW!
One could even upgrade an original 9000uF 6-pack with six 15000uF units for an improvement. "

I ordered those ones from ebay and already got them installed. Works fine. They were quite a bit lighter than the old ones.

I found the same thing. The old ones are 6.9oz. and the new ones are 4.4oz. Glad to hear they work.

    Duane,
Is there no issue going from the 35v caps to the 50v ones?

Not Duane, but you can go up in voltage, just not the other way.

duane-- I've got a MM200 with 8 caps....should I look at replacing? Also my CR1 is arcing, you sent a link to a generic one in the past vs Miller.....would you go to a generic?

    Re: Miggy Got 'Capped'!

Electrolytic capacitors do in fact have a finite life but unless you can have the caps checked on a capacitor tester to check for bad ones, one or more have failed (leaking, bulging, BANG!) or you have to consistently run with the coarse voltage setting one or two positions above what the machine chart says you probably don't need to go the expense and trouble of changing them.

The former open frame relay used for CR1 is no longer available and the later closed style DPDT, 20A, 24VAC from Miller can be used if desired but I'd just go with a comparable one from one of the more common brand name makers of the same rating.
