Re: Millermatic 30A Wire Feeder - Ain't No 7A749 Refurb

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but i have a 30A feeder as well, a REALLY old one like a couple here, and i have the single drive rolls. I have trouble with them slipping, and not feeding the wire, and parts for the single rolls are REALLY hard to find. Where can i get the parts for the double drive other than buying a whole feeder somewhere? Just get lucky?

Get lucky. Best off buying another feeder if that one is on it's last legs. 50 series are plentiful and cheap. HGR surplus has them once in awhile.

That drive is pretty simple. What is slipping? Your spool hub may be locking up. The washers can be cleaned and the friction ones replaced. The rolls are difficult to find but not impossible,

It doesn't owe me anything. I paid $25 for the welder and feeder on ebay some years ago. It's old enough Miller doesn't have a manual online. The closest match for the drive is a 10A. The controls are 30A.

I haven't seen any cheap feeders, but maybe cheap is a relative term. (shrug)

Another thought. Do any of the self contained welders like millermatic have the dual roll feeders insude them, i could look for one of those to scrap out.

The drives aren't the same. The specific drive for that feeder is quite unique when compared to later stuff. The 12 pitch geared carriers fit on the early four roll drives, but that's where the similarities end.

    Hi Duaneb 55

I have bought couple days ago a power source unit the Miller sr-1000c1.
Have you any idea of the what kind a wire feeder I must find to make work with my power source?
    Thank you

Babispapa, that's one big welding power source with a capacity of up to 1600A! However, it's a Constant Current (CC) machine for stick welding and not a Constant Voltage (CV) unit for the typical wire feeder. The only kind of wire feeder you could use with the SR-1000 would be a Voltage Sensing (VS) portable suitcase such as the Miller 8VS or 12VS or Lincoln LN25.

What is your intended use for this unit? Commercial or home/hobby?

Re: Millermatic 30A Wire Feeder - Ain't No 7A749 Refurb

    Hi duaneb55

Yes I know that is a high amperage machine and very heavy to but I must say tha I love that monster.
I am not a professional just do my hobby and that is to collect for my store house some big welders.
Those portable suitcases the Miller 12vs are very expensive here about 2600euro and I don't want to give that money.
The Lincoln LN25 it will feet at my source or it is necessary some modifications?
    Thanks for the info

The LN25 will connect right up to any CC power source with no special modifications.

Re: Millermatic 30A Wire Feeder - Ain't No 7A749 Refurb

    Hi duaneb55

    One more question.
The manual for the sr-1000 writing that the specific machine can be used for plasma cutter power source.
How can I use this unit for plasma cutter?what kind of plasma torch I must look to buy.
How can I connect a plasma cutter to this unit I meant the wiring part.
    To many questions sorry
    Best regards

I'm afraid I don't have enough information on the machine to answer your question and would suggest contacting Miller Customer Service for their assistance.

Re: Millermatic 30A Wire Feeder - Ain't No 7A749 Refurb

Sorry to resurrect a five year old thread But I just had to say what a great write up this is in regards to the old Millermatic 30A wire feeders. I tried starting a new thread on the general discussion forum with "smithdoor" as the lone reply .Thanks again smithdoor.
I've had a few older Miller feeders including 1-S54A 1-S52E 1-10E 2-30A's all running through a variety of Tweco guns. The MM30A's are great feeders that can stay in service for years when converted to the two piece drive roll carriers which use the common and plentiful miller drive rolls found in most of the later machines.
These are the two piece drive roll carriers referred to.Name: IMG_20220623_222252.jpg
