Everlast Powerarc 200st

I am thinking about buying a 220 volt stick welder so I don't have to fire up the miller bobcat every time I want/need to weld. What do y'all think about the Powerarc 200st? Is it is as good as the regular Powerarc 200? How does it weld?

Now back on topic. I love mine, it runs great. If you think you are going to want to weld on 110V, then get the ST. If you want a better duty cycle, and don't mind the 220v requirement all the time, then get the 200. Keep in mind that the 200st also has lift start for tig, so a bit easier to light a tig torch. I've used my 200st on both 220v, 110v, ran it off a generator (Yamaha 2800 inverter) and done some tig with it. Works great in all processes. I've surprised some of my friends with the quality of a weld you can get off of 110v with this machine.

Make sure you don't try to tig off of the 6010 port! I know this from experience

It excels with it. It has a dedicated port just for 6010/11

Wife and kids were out of the house today when i got home so I had a couple of hours to make some welds with my 200st. I'm a novice, go easy on me, but just wanted to show Raider some pictures since he requested. First photo is lift start tig, 3/32 @ ~ 120 amps:

I just need to install a couple of alignment braces at the bottom and then paint it. Set up is copycat from others on this forum. Intention is to be able to remove the saw from the stand by just removing the two plastic knob bolts on the upright. The small piece of metal on the saw handle will stay in place. Not my idea, stole it from weldingweb

That will be a useful tool. But to give you a little tip here. Don't ever TIG over paint...it just won't work. You have to grind it away first. Also it is the correct way for stick too. Welding over paint creates porosity, and other problems (fumes) etc.

Good point lug. Notice though that I removed the paint from the tig joint.

I don't see the paint removed, thoroughly at least. It may be my eyes, but You should have a 1" free area on either side that is well ground. I see some sporadic grinding marks that looks like a miss or something but the paint I see has burned back right to the edge of the weld it looks like. If the paint was removed and joint prepped thoroughly, I don't think you'd see the weld gray and oxidized like that.

I've got a long way to go on a lot of aspects of welding. Having a good machine at a price that I am comfortable spending went a long way to letting me enjoy this as a hobby. By the way, I have a PP50, PA200st, and PA300. I work out of a 5x5' shop right now, as I live in japan. When I retire early next year, I plan on getting a place with a large garage. One day, when I don't have a naggin wife, three small kids, and a full time job, I'll work more on my weld prep. In the mean time, I plan on burning a lot of metal. Hey, as long as I'm not repairing fire truck ladders and kiddie roller coaster tracks, I'll be ok. Hopefully I can do just enough to stay off the "welding fail" thread.
