    liftarc on 161

I just purchased the Esab 161 and was trying out a few things. I jerry rigged my TIG torch since my new dinse connected hadn't arrived yet. I set the switch to liftarc and touched tungsten and it seemed to light up almost immediately. Is this normal on this machine. I have used it on a Thermal Arc and a few different Millers and it made a small spark then a delay, then a normal arc.

may be normal. Lift arc should snap into an arc as the tungsten is lifted from the metal.
Depending on if you are in panel control or remote control. will determine how bright the arc is when it starts.

    Hay Mike,
What model of machine did you get?
The 161lts or the stick only one?

You might be just scratch starting.

I think you're referring to a different brand - I have not seen an ESAB 161 that was stick only advertised.
But I beleive they can be ordered without the tig parts and regulator - but the machine is the same.

Plus he said he switched it to lift arc.

Tried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

    Re: liftarc on 161

I talked with Esab about it and its working as it should. The ones ,with the exception of my XMT that I used have a gas solenoid. That was the reason for a delay. This one just took some adapting on my part and some getting used too. I didn't get the TIG kit with it. I had some parts and between HTP and weld city I only have about 100$ in the TIG setup including a new flowmeter and gas hose.
