Used spoolmatic 30a, welding wire always energized

    Hello,
I just picked up a bunch of stuff used on craigslist.
    A trailblazer 302, spoolmatic 30a with wc-24 and an x-treme 8vs.
When I tested out the 30a at the sellers home I noticed that the wire was hot before pulling the trigger. He said that's the way it's supposed to be. I just figured it was broken and could be fixed. The 30a was connected to the machine at the "wire"terminal. We were not running any gas and the work clamp was connected to the "work" terminal on the 302. The dial on the upper left of the 302 was set to "wire voltage sensing wire feeder (CV). Voltage was set around 18-19.
Is this the way it's supposed to be? Did the spoolmatic 30a come in more than one "generation" Mine has a removable drive wheel cover instead of one that flips up on a hinge.

Also, the 302 is for sale, it has 230 hours on a Subaru engine, one small quarter sized ding and no rust. Runs fine. I already have a 302 but this guy was selling all or nothing so I bought it figuring I could sell it. I am asking $3200.00

    Thanks, James

    Doesn't the 30a have a remote cable?
If so plug it in and set the 302 for "wire feed with remote"
    Or words to that effect.

Also ur 30a sounds like first generation. Be sure that you order the correct tips for it.
Probably ones without a thread on them.

You might sell the 302 easier if people knew where you were located!

Thanks guys, it was the selector switch. Now... can I run fluxcore in the gun? Is there a way to reverse polarity. Can it be as simple as reversing the connection to the power source?

Does the same hold true for reversing polarity on the suitcase x-treme 8vs?
