    Couple of questions

    Good morning.

First question, is it ok to tack weld with smaw and finish weld with fcaw? Does one need to worry about the differences in the weld metal?

Second, has anyone welded T-1 to C1045? I hear it's hard to do, but can be done with the right preheat and interpass temps. Tips from your success will be appreciated.

Third, is there any truth in a statement made that if you are certified smaw overhead, you are automatically certified to weld fcaw overhead, even though they are 2 different processes?

    Thank you!

    Re: Couple of questions

I was the supervisor on 1-mile of pipe tray in a Chevron refinery. The raising gang tacked with 7018, the welding crew ran NR-212.

I've never seen it where SMAW certs were used for FCAW.
