That's not a bad idea. Pretty well thought out.
Those nails aren't exactly deep into framing, so they shouldn't bend your claw back. Looks like you have a good striking surface on top, to whack the claw if you have trouble getting it behind the spike head.

I once saw someone who modified a pair of vice grips to work with a slide hammer, and have been meaning to make one ever since, but never had the time (or the money to buy one, now that someone started making them).

 

wait till the framing is rotted out and gutter removal is simple...

What a great idea.I use a block of wood and a claw hammer. How many whacks does it normally take? I bet by the end of the day you've had quite the work out.

 

That's a great idea. I have a couple that need to be moved and have tried before and made a mess. so again tanks a bunch ( the best tools are the specially made tools)

 

Funny thing is, I made the exact same rig about a year ago for pulling gutter spikes.

Just used a piece of C-channel, with the groove for the nail heads in one side, and a hole for the threads on the slide hammer on the other, so it could be removed from the hammer when finished. (Was using a storebought hammer).

 

It takes 2 whacks! the first one is to get the head out just enough to grab a full bite. then one big whack and the whole nail comes out. But be careful...... this works too good, and can be a little dangerous at the top of a ladder. It's kind of hard to stop the momentum. so really you want to just tap it out with a few small WHACKS.
BTW..... one idea always leads to another, and I'm thinking about making one that pulls T-post. Kind of the opposite of a T-post driver, but with this idea of WHACKERY.
