If I need it now, I buy from tractor supply. In my area, welding supply places are 9-5 operations...I can never get by in time to see what their prices are. TSC is cheaper and has fresher welding supplies than big box alternatives.

I dont use small rolls much, but http://store.cyberweld.com/ has free shipping, but I don't really know how thier prices compare with what you have seen. Might check that out...not an endorsement, just FYI.

Mig wire

One note,

There really is a difference in arcing characteristics of different brand wires, especially in the low voltage ranges of .023 and .030 wire.
Better brand wires are really worth a little more. Any major brand s-6 (if you are short circuit welding) wire should suffice. We have done tests of different brands with the small track mig and noted major differences in weld fusion especially in some of the off brand products. (no I won't name brands )
If you are running flux cored wire the difference is even more striking (no pun intended)

regards

At my dads shop we buy from a gas, welding distributer up to a couple years ago we bought the indavidual 60# boxes going through one or two a week then we found out that if you buy in bulk its allot cheaper! I think that we saved over $2000 a year by buying a pallet of the 60# boxes.Which might be a bit off youre question if youre buying wire from Sears.Sorry

Try buying the biggest spool of wire you can fit into your machine. If you use SS, or regular rod, a 10lb spool is maybe only 1/2 again as expensive as a 2 lb spool. And, a 30lb spool is relatively giving you a lot of extra wire for a given price. You may need an adapter to fit a bigger spool, but you will save money in the long run. And, the nice thing.... wire on a spool is still good in 6 months, it doesn't grow mold. Unles you let it rust. That is not so good.
