My local airgas has a used miller maxstar 150 stl forsale. They are asking 880.00 or best offer. It comes with all cables except the tig torch, it has a tig accessory kit, tungsten, collets nozzels and such, gas regulator and the case. It looks really clean. I could hardly find a scratch on it. I asked the guy about it and he said it has been sitting around for 2 years was used as only a demo unit so i assume it was never used alot in a shop and such plus you can tell by just looking at it how clean it is. I offered $650 and i think i might even be able to get it for $600.00 if i try. He said $650 would work fine.
Whats your thoughts? Get it or pass it by. It was a demo so i don't know what kind of abuse they go through.
Thanks
Shane

I think you can find one new on ebay shipped for around $750, but that only includes ground clamp and stick electrode holder and not sure of the regulator. With the regulator and accessories i'd give $650 for it. Somebody else will be along and give you some more opinions

The STL model is just shy of $1000 best price online (the S model is $750 - no remote control plug). That includes stick leads and nothing else. So $650 is an amazing deal.

Yea i thought it was a good deal too when i seen it. Ive been thinking about picking up a maxstar for those portable jobs that require some amps. Im gonna call tomorrow and see how low i can go:drinkup:

That slipped by me....in that case heck yea, go for it.

Yea. The little harbor freight is great but it just lacks amps for those portable jobs that you need more out of. Its very limited when it comes to stick welding on it. Your very lucky if you can get 3/32 7018 from it. Plus i seen that price on the maxstar and its really hard to pass up. I differently gonna see how low i can go.:pumpkin:

Go for it, that's a smokin' price. :)

The only downfall might be that it might not have the quick-change MVP plug on it. I forget what year they started with the MVP multi-voltage plugs on the Maxstar 150's, but it was fairly recent. I don't know if an older non-MVP Maxstar can be used with a newer MVP power cord from a newer model or not. Might want to check into that, if this one doesn't have the MVP.

Yup it dosnt have the mvp plugs. Thats not really a big problem for me since i can just make an adapter cord. (this is one of the reasons im gonna try to talk down the price:) )

Well i got today:blob3:. $600.00 plus tax so it ended being $630. Im very happy. I swear its almost brand new. The ground clamp and stinger look band new i mean like only very few rods were burned with it. Also i found out it was hidden in the case a brand new miller diamond back 17 series tig torch with a brand new gas hose still bundled up new. Also it has a brand new smith regulator and a brand new tig accessory tig. I don't think tig was ever used on this unit. It still smells brand new. It had to of only seen very very few hours of use and then put away. Christmas has come early for me:blob3:.

I don't think its under warrenty still its the older style without the mvp plugs. I bought a 110 plug to test it out. It also had a brand new 220 plug but i switched it to 110 for right now. I will try it on 220 though. Its amazing i have never used lift arc before just scratch start and high frequiency start. It does wonders comparied to scratch scratch start. It burns 6013 like a dream, ill have to try some 6011 and 7018 its just too cold to stick weld outside right now. I think ill try to get a pedal from ssc for christmas:) I still cant get over how new it is i looked all over and can not find one scratch. One happy camper:drinkup: The only problem is my lincoln mig welder might be mad at me because its blue:laugh:

Pedal came today from SSC Controls. Wow they make a quality pedal. Very sturdy and nice an big. Great product. Heres some test shots with the new pedal. Im pretty new to a foot pedal, im used to using scratch start and at work i use a finger/slider torch amp control and have only used a pedal a few times at work on a different machine. Still gotta get used to backing off on the pedal but pretty much the same as a hand amp trol.
