    Eastwoods New Mig 250

My Lincoln Power Mig 180c has been a good welder but was thinking of getting a 250 amp unit of some kind. Looked at the Lincoln's, Miller's, Hobart's and others, then I seen the Eastwood Mig 250 and at the price, 3 year warranty and a 60% duty cycle at 250 amps on 240 volt and can run on 120 volt also and is spool gun ready.

I have to think on this a little.

I have been looking at it for a few months. Seems heavy for an inveter. Plus you can get a hobart 210mvp for maybe a little less. Dual voltage, transformer but a few less amps.

I have been doing a lot of welding on the upper side and at 30% duty at 130 amps I have been pushing it.

Well there is still transformers in inverter welders and plasma cutters, just smaller ones.

    Re: Eastwoods New Mig 250

Well I got it Wednesday. Unboxed it yesterday and stood there and though it is going back.

Don't like the power cable it is stiff and as big around as my arm.
Don't like the torch its a Trafimet and consumables will have to be ordered.
Don't like the argon gauge (one of those cheap ones that comes with most China welders)
Don't like the argon hose (cheap China crap)
Don't like the work clamp (it was bent and same cheap China crap)
Only came with a 2 lb spool of .030 cheap wire.
Side cover don't fit good at all.

Then I though maybe I am being to picky for what I paid for it.

So I put one of my good work cables on it.
did a little mod of a HTP mig gun I had from a Hobart I sold and installed it
    plugged it in
installed a 2 lb spool of HTP .035 wire on it
    hooked up the C 25
    set the roller tension
got some 3/8" plate and clamped it down
set the welder at 24 volts and 350 IPM
put on the helmet and gloves and tacked a piece to make a T joint and went at it

Well to my surprise it welds very good, I made about 10 or 15 6" passes and it never missed a lick.
cranked it all the way up and it was way to hot for the 3/8 and .035 wire, the little HTP mig gun held in there even through its not rated for those amps.

I have to say this thing does really put down the wire.

So at this point I will use the setup I have on it now and start looking for a higher amp rated gun for it.

I think that covers it for now.

Any new thoughts on the machine?
Is the duty cycle as high as advertised?

Well I have been using it to do all kinds of jobs and so far its been doing just fine. Haven't had anything over 1/4" to do yet to really push it other then the testing I did on some 3/8".

I did put the OEM mig gun back on and thying to get used to it.

    Re: Eastwoods New Mig 250

    Well so far so good.

I still don't like the torch but its been almost 5 months and I have used one 10lb roll of wire and some on the second roll.

This welder hasn't missed a lick and has done everything that I have used it for very well.

The chrome plated nozzle has held up well also as splatter don't stick to it like the copper ones on my Lincoln does even with anti-splatter spray on them.

I will update in a few more months as to how its working.

    Re: Eastwoods New Mig 250

    Sorry been busy.

Well its still working ok, I haven't been using it on heavy stuff after the jobs I got it for was done.

I had a big job lined up and bought a spool of duel shield for it but the job fell through. Will have to do some test plates with the duel shield as soon as I get some time.
