For Sale-Miller Dialarc 250 AC/DC. Nice Beginners Machine!

I have a Miller Dialarc 250 AC/DC I would like to sell. I originally was not going to spend any time on it, but did it anyways.

It's far from a true restore, but all the important stuff is solid and in good working order. I've been completely thru it. All the panels were pretty rough, I straightened them out the best I could and painted them with quality engine paint that closely matches older Miller Blue. Fan motor has been completely disassembled, cleaned lubricated and repainted. Had the entire rectifier, range switch and all the panel mounted stuff out for cleaning and repair as well. Put a newer rheostat from a parts unit I had in it too.

More or less gave the machine a facelift and made some nice leads up for it. It looks good and welds about the same. Be a nice machine for a beginner, serious student or anyone wanting a smaller stick machine that's on wheels and doesn't weigh 900 lbs.

The faceplate is a reproduction matte laminate decal made by my vinyl guys. I wasn't going to do that either, but again, I caved to my desire to try and do things the best they can be done. I have some extras, I'll add them to the decal thread with pricing. Also had him make some jumper link position decals for it. The details are always important. Has a new laminated wiring diagram on the left side panel as well.

    Here's the specs.

Miller Dialarc 250 AC/DC CC SMAW welding machine.
    Date of manufacture 1978
    Single Phase input power. 200/230/460
    Factory Wheel Kit.
    1/0 leads, 12' ground, 18' electrode.
    10' #6 AWG power cord

$600. Pretty firm on the price, at least for now. I've seen ugly ones sell for more on eBay and CL. Just looking to get my money back out of it and make a couple bux. Isn't gonna be much, but getting the decals made was part of the reason I went ahead with the whole job.

I will ship it, please get your own shipping quotes. It will ship from 48906 Lansing, MI Industrial address, 600 lbs on a 48" pallet, class 70.

I will accept cash, PayPal as a gift, cashiers checks that first clear my bank and Postal Money Orders.

    PM me for details. Thanks

More pix in the next post.....

Re: For Sale-Miller Dialarc 250 AC/DC. Nice Beginners Machine!

    Some extras...

You'll notice the polarity decals are missing. I took good photos but the owner of the decal shop has gotten real off the wall on pricing lately and I had to end up paying $120 just to get the first face decal made with setup. The guy who does the work cut a few extras, so hopefully I can sell a couple to recoup some of the cost. I may have him do the polarity decals at a later date but I was afraid to ask what they would cost after what the face was priced out at.

All and all, it turned out pretty good. The sheet metal could have stood to have been replaced, but I already had more time and money in it than I intended to. I'm cursed with being a perfectionist, and even tho this one is far from what I usually put out of my shop, it's acceptable and will make someone a nice little stick welder.

If anyone is local, they're welcome to come by and burn some rod with it. Welds pretty good anyways

Great welder, just picked up a Dialarc 250 HF that I want to do the same kind of restore to. What running gear is that btw? I have a ghetto angle iron frame that some hack built for my machine now. And FWIW I have owned a 2009 syncrowave 250dx runner, a syncrowave 180sd, and a Dialarc 250 AC...the old welders are the best.

Steve, one of these days we'll sell our house and retire. If you would come in and spruce it up like that unit, you will be paid handsomely. Hell, we might even stay here if it looks that good!

P.S. My Dialarc has a nice pinhole arc booger in the front where some putz bumped into it with the stinger. Does give it a lived-in feel. Unit came out of a community college.

P.P.S. Hell, I could send my wife up there for a power wash and detailing job. Just buff, not stuff.

It's the a miller running gear. It's seen better days, but it's still serviceable. I have a Dialarc HF sitting here too, but it needs a lot of internal work fixing some hack job wiring. That one will get the full treatment tho. Probably do stainless side covers on it. Got a late 60s Airco (miller) SCP 200C MIG welder that's next on the list. Hope to get it going soon.

Hehehe. I can't make anything out of wood but campfires and trailer decks

My very first welder was one of these, ironically it had the same stinger bump yours has on the face too. The damn decals were pricey, but he did a fantastic job on them. The MILLER needed to be just a bit bigger, but he can always modify that later.

Hopefully someone will give this little welder a nice home

Your wife is in fine condition.... Can't say the same for you

But I could get an Everlasting Longevity welder with a great warranty for half that price.

Boys that's a pretty good price on the welder. We have had several over the years and were very pleased with them . Solid built. I am using a sort of twin to that machine but built or sold by Airco. Its called a Bumblebee AC/DC 250 and it still(knock on wood ) welds great and I think it was built in the early 70s. The seller has the experience to put the welder together right and look at that big old copper wound transformer. These welders were built before all the Chinese welders flooded the market. Somebody's going to be happy when they get this welder. By the way I run my unit on a 60 amp 240volt single phase circuit and it does just great. Richey

That's a good price for a machine that has been gone through by someone that knows what they're doing.

Yeah, I figured if I did the extra work I would get the face decals back out of it after it's sold.mill do little more than break even at this point.

Thanks Richey. It's a good little machine. I still think my Maxtron stick welds better, but that's just my opinion. Hopefully it will find a good home....,soon.

Absolutely beautiful job on fixing up the Miller...looks like it came out of the factory!

And, don't apologize for the price; if I needed another welder, I'd jump all over that one.

    Thanks man.

It's a tough market right now. I've seen ppl selling junk for the same price tho. I just need to round some money up, so hopefully someone will hit it.

Posted it on CL today, along with that wire feeder I have for sale.

Re: For Sale-Miller Dialarc 250 AC/DC. Nice Beginners Machine!

I was going to buy it, but then I saw their were no polarity decals...

    Here's how it works:

You want to sell this item, list it for a very fair price, far below everyone else, and it will sit there for months unsold
You want to buy a Dialarc 250, everyone is selling them for $1,500
Meanwhile, everyone else is telling you how they bought one for $100

If I was looking for a stick welder, I would totally buy it. Maybe drive up there and actually meet you for once!
