    Mtaw?????????????

Anyone heard of MTAW, as opposed to GTAW?

I am quoting a part that lists MTAW as an alternative on stainless 316 alloy.

Hello shovelon, so I haven't heard of that particular acronym. Do you know what it stands for? If I were to take a guess maybe: "Mechanized Tungsten Arc Welding", but that is just a guess. Kind of like how the europeans use MMA to denote the SMAW process. Best regards, Allan

    Re: Mtaw?????????????

I saw this in an aircraft welding publication from Australia (page A9):
    (apparently a MIG process)

For oxy-acetylene (gas), GTAW (TIG) and MTAW (MIG) welding processes,
examination metal thickness of sheets is 1.6mm thick (this will include material of
    0.063 inch thickness).

And a college welding course in Texas:

    The program includes entry-level
skills in stick (SMAW), oxy-acetylene (GAS), gas shield arc (GTAW and
MTAW) and flux-cored arc (FCAW) welding. There is a $200 supply
fee per class and a one-time investment of approximately $150 for
    personal equipment.

Ok, then I think they must mean mig weld.

I quoted the job as tig weld so I am good to go.

    Thanks.

I think there's a sticky on of these forums... MIG like TIG arc welding. They also use the term MAG welding overseas for Metal active gas (Co2 shielded)
