I closed up the shoes on one and she liked it. One cross I used mule shoes. As you can see they are more of a "U" shape. They're handy for the self balancing wine bottle holders I make.

Since we have horses....I use up the worn shoes on occasion. These shelve brackets have been popular.

    Re: New Horseshoe art Sticky

If you want new shoes for metal art, go to a feed store or farrier supply. My feed store sells them by the pound and it averages out to about $2.25 per shoe. TSC and big box stores ask a lot more for their shoes.

Old shoes from farriers work just fine, but be aware that often the toes, and sometimes the sides, are worn down to a sharp edge and might not either look good for your work or be a hazard on some projects. And...the old shoes usually need to be cleaned of rust, mud and horse sh!t. I use both old and new, depending on the purpose. With new shoes, you get to pick your size...old shoes you get what the farrier has, but usually free as John T says.

My local Tractor Supply isn't too bad in pricing on Diamond Shoes. Is there a farrier supplier near you ? Centuar Forge is where I buy all my shoes. They have a first time buyer special, get 10% off first order.

    https://www.centaurforge.com
Looking through their online catalog isn't the same as seeing in person. The style, thickness, size, and shape available are amazing.
Reccyled shoes have their place in artwork as do New Clean Shoes. Front and hind shores are different. Getting shoes from a farrier is nice. Remember they need to be cleaned and getting more than a matched pair can be tough. Not the best for some artwork.
New shoes still need to be cleaned, but,
You can buy the exact same ones for your projects. It is really nice working with matching shoes. Your projects will look cleaner. I did and do lots of horseshoe artwork. If you need assistance just ask.
Diamond and St.Croix are best for artwork in my opinion .
I rarely use anything larger than a number 2.
    Different shoes for different projects.

Late to the party here...do you find any difference between Diamond and St. Croix on forging new shoes? I use both, mostly St. Croix though, as I have found they seem forge more smoothly, if there is such a thing. They all weld the same.

    Re: New Horseshoe art Sticky

It sounds like one of my art/craft shows is a go for June. I figured I'd make a few more wine holders that have been my best sellers. It's full swivel and designed so the holder itself can be removed from the base and set horizontally. I try to fabricate projects that are multi position. This one has a wood base and I'll make a horseshoe base for another.
My WELCOME sign can set on flat surface with screw on bases, or stick in ground with all thread rods, and can be hung on wall.

I have already had one small show in March that didnt do so well but that was due to the way they restricted attendance.

In the near future I have one in May and two in June. One of my best shows the first weekend in May canceled this year.

It has already been a great year so far. I hope the return of shows helps to make it even better. From what I have seen, people really want the shows and are willing to buy.

I am sure you will do well.

Thanks, this show is the one I always do great at. It's outside on the Civic Center grassy park setting and spaces are 12'x12'. I'll talk with them in a couple of weeks for a update.

I know people are getting tired of being captive and want to socialize.

I flew to Florida a few weeks ago. The Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Jacksonville , Florida airports were pretty empty. The Atlanta, Georgia was busy but not as much as usual. I flew Delta which was at limited capacity. Did great fishing and had fun. The restaurants and breweries required masks when entering and all servers had masks on.

I'm flying back in a few weeks for more fishing and fun.
