I made this design based off the hurricane symbol.

I had made one a while ago and it was well received and sold so I made another.

Working on some weights for tents used at art shows.
These are 2-1/2" and weigh about 41 pounds each. The standard or requirements at most shows is to have a minimum of 40 pounds at each corner.
I will try to sell some to other artists.

A other one of my big bells is complete. Having a plasma table plus waking up at 4am helps to get ready for some higher end art shows the next couple of weekends.

My favorite Tractor Supply Shows has been cancelled by corporate because of covid.
I did amazingly well there and it was free !!
Hopefully next year will better.
There are inside shows that are cancelled too.
Hopefully you'll keep going .

I had a couple shows cancel earlier this year but the next three weekends look good.
It will be my first time at two of them so fingers crossed. Those two are higher end shows.
I do have an indoor one later in the year I am worried about.

This is kind of a post for Shootr, BD1, or any others that make and sell art, crafts, etc.
Last weekend I was at a better quality art show.
Customer 1 is looking at a $600 sculpture (The first pic).
Customer 2 is standing behind them watching.
Customer 1 walks away without a question to me.
Customer 2 buys the sculpture and I give her a little bit of a discount since it is 4 years old and takes up a good amount of space. Plus I like to rotate or have new inventory so it looks like one of a kind.
Customer 1 returns 5 minutes later and sees the $600 sculpture is sold. Says, " I just went to pee".
Customer 1 then ends up buying a $1200 sculpture ( second pic) for his office.

Third pic is my booth display.

The moral is don't be afraid to charge a decent amount for your work. Plus try to attend the type of events that support those prices.

This weekend I am at a bit lower art show so have different items.

Great job Pat , and very appealing display
I haven't ventured into your class but agree 100% .
I've only done one $1,000.00 piece. I did stick to my price.
I've sold quite a few $100 and $125.00 pieces.
I might pursue a couple larger ones this winter.
It's still tough by me with shows being cancelled.

Question(s) about a prospective customer wanting to commission a yard art piece.

* How does the conversation(s) go?
*Work through their wants via pictures and drawings (Size, materials, logistics for delivery, etc)?
*If local, visit the proposed sight so there's no surprises when it comes time to deliver?

* How do you determine a price?
*Create a material list and cost it out? Do you have an "hourly labor rate" to base that part of your proposals on?
*S.W.A.G. an estimate on the time it will take to build? What about consumables - just part of the labor rate?
*If it's a local project, pad the proposal to cover delivery and install?

I've had two people in the past week contact me off of a FB listing for something else, asking if I do custom work. I replied with reserved eagerness that I do, sent them numerous pictures of past works, etc. Nothing has come of it yet, but heck - maybe someday I'll get the opportunity so I want to be as prepared as possible.

Thanks. It is steel painted with the textured stone style spray paint. It looks a lot like granite or concrete.

ShootR , custom or commissioned work can be challenging . First off, what is the size of the piece, do you have to buy materials, is this something you could make and sell, and is there a time frame.
I've done some, but they were in the $100 to $150.00 range.
My outlook was, if I can sell it at a show, I'd build it, track the time, and price accordingly.
If they didn't like the price I would keep it and sell at a show.
I would text them in progress photos. I would tack OR use various magnets to hold position of pieces before any welding. It's easier to remove tack and magnets then cut it apart.
I had one customer that would stop by to see it . That was helpful because I could present options available or what I thought would be best.
Ten people can look at the same piece and you'll get 10 different reviews.
Any first time project takes longer. I could sketch something and then modify as I build.
Pricing depends on the complexity of the piece. It depends what they want and if you can build it.
Having the right tools saves time and money.
If you're up for the challenge, do it, and give them price when done. If they take it fine, if not sell it.

I would like to add that it is my opinion that little objects with a lot of detail can at times take almost as much time as larger objects but will rarely sell for as much as higher sized or bigger scaled objects. So if you value your time and getting paid what you deserve then don’t sell your self short and take on a bunch of little object projects for little pay when one big project will pay 10 fold and be way more fulfilling not only to your wallet but also your soul
