Is that the ugliest thing you've seen? Combination of flux core, C25 solid wire, and not knowing what I'm doing. Almost finished and learned a lot but I may want to cut it all into pieces and get rid of the evidence when I'm done.

Wouldn't worry about it being ugly, as long as it does what it's supposed to do.

Artsy is fine, but artsy mostly doesn't do anything. Depending on your outlook on life, this is either a negative, or a positive. I don't come down on either side. Some stuff is absolutely beautiful, and serves a purpose..........other stuff.................. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

Beautifully designed/made light fixture...........I'm diggin' it. Same with fence/gate stuff. Artistic accomplishment combined with utility.

I suppose I don't have an aficionado's taste for the good life............which might be a bad thing. I like realism............Homer, and other maritime artists. Etchings of Dresden before the fire bombing. The Dutch Masters. That sort of stuff. It's about as far as I dip my toes in the art world.

There's a German dood, from around the late 1800's(Biersadt) that painted non accurate depictions of the American landscape, but they were beautiful in a very dark, subdued, way. I only own prints, but I surely like them.

I like to look at a painting, and see something that accurately reflects the world around me, or the artist. That is true skill. The beginning of the modern age was a bust, as far as I'm concerned. It's no wonder the dood cut off part of his ear back in the day. I believe he also shot himself at the end. The mayhem of the mind, splashed on canvas, doesn't appeal to me. Nor does the stuff that pretenders are doing these days.

After several bigger art shows, today has been spent unpacking, cleaning, and maintaining some of my equipment.(Greasing the hinge points on my trailer)


I understand some dooods in other industries (farming) ....... don't always like to do simple tasks.

My equipment is used to help make a living. ..... I don't have time to let it fall apart then spend months performing overly complex repairs.

Plus it allows me to step away from the computer and actually be productive.

Sadly the term preventive maintenance is foreign to a LOT of the farmers in my area. I’m fortunate that my father instilled its value to me when I was young.

I spent over 20 years in the Army where they emphasized preventive maintenance. Almost too much emphasis at times. Nearly every Monday from 0830 until 1130 was spent on inspections and maintenance. But when you have dozens of pieces of motorized equipment, you could work on one style a week and it worked out pretty well.

Almost exactly that. Great job.
We need to clean out an area underwater and the divers will hold this end.
This one will be an air lift style dredge.
We are using air to lift the water into a strainer or catch basket since we can't send it through the impeller of the pump.

Trust me, I kept them for future projects.

I am going to weld one piece on the side of this tank so I double the wall thickness. I need put a 1/4" NPT fitting through the wall so the air flows into it. The existing wall is a little less than 1/4" thick. With stress and strain as it is moved around, I worry about the fitting coming out.

I made a much larger version of this at the beginning of this thread. That one was 8 inch steel. The aluminum on this one is to keep the weight down.
