I have been making these for several years. I guess I never posted a pic. They do well at the art shows.

Re: Scrap metal art or projects
I presume you clean them up a bit prior to sales. Can’t immagine people wanting rusty old railroad spike book holders on their shelves.

Re: Scrap metal art or projects
I do not clean them.
I leave them rusty and as notavegetarian says, clear coat them.
They have multiple coats of a gloss clear to protect the shelf and books.

I think the bookends sticking out of the bases of the rails are neat!

Cool stuff PSA.
I make coat hooks from RR spikes but I blast and clear, granted I am not making the volume you are or I doubt I would blast.

Thanks VW.

Re: Scrap metal art or projects
The questions on these bookends made me realize I had not made of this style in quite a while.
The corner of one rail plate is really bent so I may not try to fix it.

Re: Scrap metal art or projects
A gallery has an event where two or more artists are supposed to collaborate on a piece of work.
I collaborated with a mixed media/fiber artist on this piece titled "Softening the Edges".

Re: Scrap metal art or projects
Seems unbalanced to me like the tallest curve should be 180 degrees wrapped to the left from the right vs how it is wrapped from the left to the right.
I did not say that quite right. have the curve bend to the left starting from the left bend goes up into the right and swings back to the left. Hope that makes better sense.

It does make sense, but I made a mistake on the spacing of the feet or base.
Instead of a real triangle, it is kind of lopsided. So it was easy to tip over. Curving the way you mentioned would make it even easier to tip. I had to curve it this way to make it more stable.

Oh you simpleton, you troglodyte,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,it's art
Anything slapped together, with the proper justification, is simply art.........you just have to understand what was going on in the creators mind. Art gallery 101
In the stock market, they call it a road show. Same same.
