I'm new here... sigh.... I like your "Softening the Edges" very much. The section with the round holes near the top remind me of grain grinder screens I make bug eyes and wings from. 8-)

Re: Scrap metal art or projects

I've been using my phone through the internet. It has given me a semi permanent headache from squinting at the "full site" feature on here. I have not tried Tapatalk. I will now though. I was leery of it for some reason. I have a froze up laptop but always find other stuff to spend those bucks on.

Re: Scrap metal art or projects

Tapatalk most likely lacks a lot of features the full site provides but I can quite adequately post pics and annoy just as well if not better than other members.

Well, I'm on tapatalk. Another learning curve. I can't look back on who I'm replying to and see what they said. Maybe I'm using it wrong.

Re: Scrap metal art or projects

    A work in progress.
At work have this little trailer I am modifying to carry scuba tanks and other gear. It is expected to be towed behind a Gator or other slow speed off road vehicle.
Instead of welding the zinc coated expanded to the frame, I am looking at using self tapping screws and washers. I may also add flip down doors to help hold the tanks in place, or just some small cargo netting/straps.
I still need to prime and paint.

Re: Scrap metal art or projects

Every artist has a different view or aspect on the way they see how a piece should look. I'd think having some fabricated lips would have made the whole thing pop. that Big O face just doesn't do it for me but that's just me. Like I said different strokes for different folks. Take 1/4" round bend it to shape of some lips viola. Weld some material to the round bar to give shape and feature and boom even better. Learn how to bend heavier metal like 3/8" with heat and you would be even better yet as you would be getting closer to more realistic IMO but once again don't take my comments as a this is how you should do it but rather as How I might of done it or coached some one to do it. Artistic creation is not my forte but copying and enhancing on ones creations is all up my alley

    Thanks for sharing

OK last thing and I'm done. That nose if super funny too. Flip it 180 and now you have a smoke out art piece naturally you don't want to use Zink or other types of metals that give off foul gasses that kill the lungs etc but you get my drift.

I always have an ear for suggestions and new ideas. Thanks for your comments. I got a bunch of those plates that I used for free and they all had a big ol hole punched in them I didn't feel like patching so most have that round mouth look. I did some with square teeth out of bearing lockwashers though. They came our really bizzare looking. I usualy stick to black pipe when I can. 8-).

Lol... I like that idea of flipping the nose. You could burn pipe tobbaco in it, eh?

I always wanted to work a churchwarden pipe into one of my sculptures. Maybe hook it up to a crude air pump on a timer and have it puff on it and blow smoke out the nostrils occasionaly.
